Role Description McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Senior Analyst, Finance to sit within our Finance organization in Higher Education. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this role serves as the high-level strategic liaison to the Accounting team, ensuring that revenue forecasting/budgeting, deferred revenue modeling, and reserves methodology are fully aligned with GAAP revenue recognition standards. You will serve as a mentor and technical lead, "fingerprinting" revenue behavior to understand how distribution models and product lifecycles impact the P&L. What you will be doing: - Act as the primary functional link between Finance and Accounting, ensuring forward-looking forecasts/budgets and Accounting results are reconciled and grounded in the same revenue recognition logic. - Produce month, quarter, and year-end close deliverables and variance analysis, and create forward-looking forecasts/budgets with associated management reporting materials. - Translate revenue recognition policies into functional forecasting drivers, ensuring models accurately reflect performance obligations and the timing of revenue release in accordance with GAAP standards. - Evaluate the entire company portfolio of sales transactions to perform deep-dive Price/Volume/Mix analysis, distinguishing revenue growth driven by raw volume versus pricing power or optimized yield. - Manage the disparate financial behaviors of Pre-Activity (physical inventory/fulfillment) and Post-Billed (usage-based/consumption) distribution channels, partnering with Billing and IT to minimize revenue leakage. - Analyze the behavior of existing products and lead modeling for New Product Introductions (NPI), including ramp-up curves and cannibalization risks. - Own the methodology for returns reserves, bad debt, and revenue allowances, incorporating predictive operational data to ensure reserves are optimized for risk and reflect true net yield. - Act as a technical lead by reviewing analyst work, providing guidance on complex modeling techniques, and defining standardized revenue modeling protocols across the Finance team. Qualifications - 3+ years of heavy-duty revenue modeling experience with a deep understanding of revenue recognition principles, Price/Volume/Mix analysis, and the mechanics of Deferred Revenue. - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required. - Expert-level Excel (Power Query/Modeling); experience with BI tools (Tableau/PowerBI) and GL systems (Oracle, IBM Cognos). - Deep experience modeling the distinct sales, return, and revenue recognition behaviors of both physical goods and service-based credits/adjustments. - Proven ability to analyze large transactional datasets to identify trends in retention or churn, expansion or contraction, and yield erosion or pricing optimization. - Experience in a lead or mentorship capacity, including project management or active coaching and peer-review of junior financial analysts (preferred). - CPA, CFA, MBA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred. Benefits - The pay range for this position is between $71,300 - $100,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. - A full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offered.
