Accounting Manager – Controller
Hire Overseas
• Own day-to-day accounting operations and maintain a clear, accurate view of cash, receivables, payables, commissions, and other financial activity • Perform regular reconciliations and improve visibility across the company's accounting workflows • Review, organize, and manage financial transactions across accounting and agency management systems • Support month-end close, reporting, and financial review processes • Maintain accurate books in accordance with US GAAP principles • Identify issues, discrepancies, gaps, or inefficiencies in existing accounting workflows and fix them • Help transition appropriate work away from outside firms and non-accounting team members into a centralized internal function • Prepare financial reports and run numbers for leadership as needed • Provide timely, accurate reporting to support business decision-making • Help leadership understand financial trends, variances, and key business drivers • Assist with basic budgeting, margin tracking, and performance visibility • Respond to ad hoc and last-minute reporting requests with professionalism and accuracy • Learn the company's accounting workflows and internal systems including Applied Epic if needed • Document, organize, and standardize accounting processes • Create better controls, checks, and visibility around money movement • Remove accounting tasks from non-accounting team members so they can focus on their core roles • Support certain payroll-related functions and coordination • Work with the company's HR professional and help ensure HR administration runs smoothly • Help track onboarding, offboarding, payroll coordination, and related administrative workflows • Coordinate with banking partners, outside accounting firms, and internal stakeholders • Maintain clean books and reliable reporting to support company banking relationships • Handle sensitive financial and client-related information securely and professionally
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting, controllership, senior bookkeeping, or accounting management experience
- Insurance brokerage, insurance agency, or insurance accounting experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and experience supporting US-based businesses
- Strong reconciliation experience with the ability to own accounting workflows from start to finish
- Comfortable learning accounting systems, agency management systems, or other industry-specific platforms
- Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills
- Clear written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work US Central Time business hours
- High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to work independently
- Trustworthy and reliable with sensitive financial information
- Nice to Have: CPA or equivalent accounting credential
- Applied Epic experience
- Experience with insurance commissions, carrier payables and receivables, agency billing, or trust account reconciliation
- Prior Controller or Accounting Manager experience in a small or mid-sized company
- Experience coordinating with outside accounting firms or bookkeeping partners
- Experience with basic forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting
- Experience supporting payroll and HR administration
- Experience working remotely for a US-based company

Role Description As a Controller, you will oversee a pod of Accounting Managers, bookkeepers, and a book of clients. You will be the main support and direction for your team, so it is imperative that you are an outstanding communicator and have strong business acumen paired with Accounting Expertise. You will be responsible for the timely delivery of weekly and monthly financial reporting to clients via your team and will serve as an escalation point, strategic advisor, and thought partner for your clients. You will be responsible for the accuracy of the data presented and are the last stop for quality control of deliverables. The most successful candidate will be a proven leader and will have a strong background in a multi-client environment, e-commerce, and be extremely tech-savvy with a focus on creating automations and efficiencies utilizing technology and AI tools. Responsibilities - This role is solutions-oriented and requires proactive engagement to ensure client success. - Oversee month-end close and all key accounting-related activities for your pod. - Financial Package Review: - Reviewing Management Reports with Key Metrics. - Accounting Package Review: - Ensuring proper reconciliations for ALL balance sheet accounts and trend analysis for both the balance sheet and P&L. - Inventory Management Review: - Including reconciling inventory (Physical, Sub to GL), Inventory write off and Obsolescence adjustments, and reviewing individual product costs and ensuring accuracy in inventory software and systems. - Review Accounts Receivable processing and aging reports (no collections). - Review Accounts Payable processing and aging reports and bill payments in Bill.com (or related software) for clients. - Review Payroll Processing, including journal entries and accruals. - Provide ad hoc reports or details as requested. - Provide Dashboards and KPIs to clients. - Help clients develop SOPs around finance and accounting best practices. - Educate clients on their financial situation and be a thought partner for solutions and a strategic advisor. - Oversee client communications and serve as an escalation point. - Supervise and train team on client and administrative duties. - Develop SOPs and training documents and contribute to the internal team as a thought partner. - Lead training sessions. - Strategically lead your team in creating efficiencies, building automations, and ensuring AI enablement where possible. - Manage a budget for your pod. - Maintain clean files and document storage.
