Role Description We're looking for an Editor, Energy Transition with first-class editorial skills, a genuine passion for the energy transition, and the strategic communications instinct to know how the right story, told at the right moment, can make a difference in the real world. Working as part of an international network of communicators, digital experts, and researchers, and line managing a writer, you will lead on the quality, coherence, and strategic alignment of content for two editorial properties. This is a hands-on role at the centre of a small, mission-driven team — one where editorial judgement and strategic thinking go hand in hand. You'll have experience as an Editor with a sound and demonstrable understanding of creating and promoting content in a digital news environment. You will use your editorial judgement not just to report on what is happening, but to identify which stories to tell, when to tell them, and how to frame them in ways that help achieve strategic goals. Your skills and track record should cover the breadth of the energy and climate space. You will be comfortable working nimbly across a remote, global team and able to manage relationships and editorial workflows across time zones without losing pace or quality. Above all, you will have first class writing and editing skills. You will be as comfortable shaping a complex policy piece as you are writing a sharp headline, and will understand intuitively how to frame specialist knowledge for a reader who is informed but not an expert. If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply. This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation. This is a 6-month contract. Qualifications - Proven experience as an editor in a global digital news environment, ideally covering climate, energy, environment, or related issues. - Strong news judgement and ability to identify what is strategically relevant, not just what is happening. - Outstanding fluent English language skills and proven writing and line-editing skills, with a precise and economical approach to language. - A solid understanding of how editorial decisions can serve strategic communication goals and contribute to real-world impact. - A self-starter who can quickly get to grips with a new brief, build relationships across the organisation, and make sound editorial judgements independently. - A genuine interest in and passion for addressing climate change. - A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change. - The disposition to work generously and collaboratively with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers. Requirements - Translate strategic communications goals into editorial decisions for two editorial properties, helping to influence debates, shift narratives, and influence target audiences. - Track industry, political, public and media conversations around energy transition policies and realities on the ground, including but not limited to decarbonisation initiatives and policies, oil and gas market trends and projects, new technologies in oil and gas, deployment of renewables, both globally and in Asia. - Commission, edit and publish articles across core coverage areas, working with a global roster of freelancers with varying levels of experience and English language skills. - Line management of a writer, providing editorial direction, regular feedback, and the support they need to produce their best work. - Maintain and develop the editorial calendar, balancing planned content with reactive coverage of breaking news. - Collaborate with digital colleagues to ensure content reaches target audience(s). - Occasionally writing opinion pieces or other pieces of content as necessary. - Ensure all published content meets editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and tone. - Using and implementing a style guide. Benefits - Be part of a remote-first, international network of professionals working on climate, energy and nature. - 6 offline days (with no calls or meetings) per year to focus on your work. - Reduced working time on Fridays during the Dry Season (summer). - Access to our employee assistance program to support your mental health and personal development. - Supplementary paid business closure for end-of-year holidays. - Parental leave matched to 20 weeks for countries where regulation allows less than that. - Enjoy regular opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues around the world. - A full-time position with an employment or consultant contract, subject to location, for 6 months.
