Role Description The Journalism Team Lead will contribute to ONC’s mission of providing non-partisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by leading a team of editorial interns. - Delegate tasks to interns within the department, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. - Provide guidance and support to interns, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. - Actively coach interns, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department. - Option to collaborate with social media and podcast teams for engaging content. This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. Time Commitment: 5 hours per week Qualifications - This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Journalism, Script Writing, Creative Writing, Media Studies, English/Literature, and/or related fields. - Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict. - A self-starter who is willing to take initiative and complete tasks. - Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines. - Google Workspace experience preferred. - Ability to lead weekly Editorial meetings. - Must be authorized to intern in the U.S. Requirements - This is not a paid position. • Cover international content focused on Nigeria as a regular beat for Modern Treatise • Write a weekly column covering social, economic, and political topics related to Nigeria from a Nigerian perspective • Provide special region-related coverage

• Monitor social media and other sources to identify dubious claims that are relevant to Canadians and could expose people to harm. • Rigorously research claims to produce checks that clearly lay out the evidence for the facts and document primary sources. • Write fact checks that are concise and transparent, with an emphasis on fairness and accuracy. • Work independently but also pitch in to help the team when needed. • Keep track of new techniques and technology to aid in fact check reporting. • Work with editors and other team members to evaluate what's working and to explore ways to improve CP Fact Checks.
