Reporting to the Managing Editor, this editor will serve as a deputy, helping to manage day-to-day editing and coverage strategy. The ideal candidate is news-driven, passionate about driving distinct coverage, and adept at understanding how stories can be translated across articles, newsletters, podcasts and social. They are also a strong communicator and manager who believes in front-end editing, giving constructive feedback, and helping reporters grow their skills. What You Bring - 2-3+ years editing and managing reporters in a local or regional news environment. - Strong editorial judgment and a deep understanding of how to shape and elevate reported stories. - A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and clear fact-checking processes. - Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven newsrooms. - Excellent communication and people-management skills, with the ability to give constructive feedback and set clear expectations. - An understanding of cross-platform storytelling, including how written reporting translates to audio and social media. - Familiarity with audience metrics and how to apply them to editorial decision-making is a plus - A genuine interest in DC and its communities, along with an appreciation for the city’s complexity and nuance.
