Benefits Specialist Location: Oakland United States Job Description: Apex Systems is hiring a Benefits Specialist for a large Healthcare client. Location: Fully remote but NCAL preferred. Employment Type: 6 months contract with possibility to extend. Role Overview We are seeking a Benefits Specialist to support our retiree Health and Welfare plans. This role involves conducting needs assessments, managing special projects related to compliance and regulatory requirements, and providing analytical support to various internal teams. The position requires a strong understanding of benefits administration, particularly for retiree plans. Key Responsibilities - Assist with active and retirement Health and Welfare plan restatements, ensuring compliance with regulatory changes. - Analyze and prepare large sets of data from plan auditors, actuaries, vendors, and third-party administrators for annual filings (e.g., 5500s, CMS, PCORI). - Oversee retirement Health and Welfare plan administration, including plan amendments, benefit change forms, and summary plan descriptions. - Conduct needs assessments for retiree Health and Welfare plans, including plan restatements and amendments. - Provide analytical support and data analysis for compliance issues. - Finalize data files for Summary Material Modification (SMM) mailings. - Interpret and apply HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, plan documents, and legal requirements when preparing analysis. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree or higher. Experience: A minimum of ten years of experience in benefits or human resources is required. Technical Skills: - Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. - Experience with Oracle/HCM and database management. - Strong knowledge of ERISA compliance and regulatory reporting, with a focus on Health and Welfare retirement benefits. Preferred Qualifications - A Master's degree. - Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) designation. - Project management experience. - Certification as an Actuary.
