Job Description

Senior UX Researcher/Designer

Flexion

Role Description Flexion is seeking a senior user experience designer/researcher with start-up experience to join an agile application development team. The work is primarily remote, but may require some client on-site work estimated at <10%. As a member of a cross-functional agile development team, you’ll partner with our clients to tackle holistic issues. You’ll facilitate tough conversations about what clients (and their users!) really need, which isn’t always what they want. You’ll work to build UX thinking into everything the team does. Specifically, you’ll: - Lead UX design and research activities on client projects, which could involve collaborating with designers from other consulting firms or the client side. - Iteratively evolve strategy and guidance to help clients solve their thorniest business problems. - Facilitate continuous discovery with customers to identify opportunities and evaluate solutions as the team’s understanding of the problem space evolves. - Facilitate design workshops. - Advocate for the users in the context of business needs/goals throughout the project. - Effectively communicate goals, designs, research, feedback, ideas, and requirements (both verbally and visually, when needed) to the team and client. - Lead and participate in UX design work, including sketching, mockups, prototypes, design patterns, content audits, heuristic reviews, user research, data modeling, user journeys, card sorting, personas, workflows, requirements, information architecture, microcopy, interaction design, and more. - Conduct user and business research to understand requirements, goals, and constraints, generating insights that shape the UX strategy and design decisions. - Analyze and provide feedback on proposed technical solutions that affect the interface design or user experience. - Pair or mob with other members of a cross-functional development team. - Coach other team members on basic HCD knowledge that all developers should have. - Prototype, test, and iterate on designs. - Drive and analyze client and user feedback to identify opportunities to improve the overall user experience throughout the design process and product lifecycle. - Follow lean and agile methodologies to deliver a quality product with minimal churn. - Help shepherd the project to the finish line and ensure a great user experience from end to end. Qualifications - At least 8 years working on UX design and research for clients. - At least 2 years experience working with agile Scrum methodologies. - USWDS (U.S. Web Design System) experience. - At least 1 year of Lean UX experience working with agile methodologies. - Experience in a start-up or start-up-like business setting. - A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. - A track record of successfully developing complex products. - Strong understanding of Incremental/Agile UX practices. - A black belt in mixed UI/UX disciplines. - A “can do” attitude devoid of ego. - The ability to play nicely with others, and the belief that teamwork is always the best solution. - Service Design experience. - Experience designing dashboards for complex data systems and enterprise applications (FinTech experience is a bonus). - Skilled in designing interfaces that adapt seamlessly across devices and screen sizes, ensuring a consistent and intuitive user experience. - Experienced in using tools like Adobe Creative Suite and Figma to create prototypes at varying levels of fidelity, enabling effective collaboration and feedback loops. - Successfully coached teams and clients. - Superb time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills. - Experience using workflow and modeling tools such as OmniGraffle, LucidChart, etc. Requirements - You are a master of applying human centered design techniques using a startup mentality. - You prefer to incrementally drive learning and development, from strategy to surface details, through authentic use and rapid iteration. - You love solving big problems and can balance high-level strategy with detail-oriented tactics. - You’re just as at home leading a discovery session with C-level executives as you are sketching prototype ideas or writing user stories. - You can speak “developer” and co-create designs and solutions throughout the process. - You’re a self-starter and don’t need to be told what to do next. - You have a wide range of UX-related skills and can flex different muscles as required. - You know how to create and implement design systems and value consistency, but also know when to make adjustments to improve usability. - You value data-driven decision-making, but won’t become paralyzed if the data doesn’t exist. - You understand that often “good enough” is as good as it can get and can live with compromise where it’s needed. - You embrace agile methodologies, preferring to delay design decisions until they need to be prioritized. - You design small pieces while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. Benefits - The salary range for this role is $130,000-$150,000. - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage. - Life and disability insurance. - Flexible spending accounts. - 401(k) plan. - Generous paid time off. - Referral bonuses. - A commitment to well-being and career success.

Role Description You will own the architecture of market infrastructure at its most fundamental level: designing the methodologies and data products that power institutional-grade pricing and indexing. This is not purely a backend role. Location: Europe Remote-first Language: English (Fluent) Your Responsibilities - Design and develop data methodologies that synthesize multiple sources into defensible market signals. - Develop a deep understanding of available datasets, their limitations, and optimal use cases. - Implement data signals with direct impact on revenue and institutional adoption. - Leverage advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and statistical programming to move from exploratory analysis to production systems. - Demonstrate mastery in time-series analysis, pattern recognition, and large-scale data problems. - Apply expertise in asset pricing, liquidity measurement, and market data systems. - Serve as the subject matter expert representing quantitative products to institutional clients. - Translate sophisticated financial engineering concepts into clear, logical explanations for non-technical audiences. - Relay market feedback from institutional partners back to product and engineering teams. Nice to Have - Background at quantitative trading firms, hedge funds, or proprietary trading desks. - Experience with decentralized finance (DeFi) or next-generation financial infrastructure. - Prior work at market data providers or exchanges. - Exposure to Index design and maintenance. Role Description You've spent years doing serious political polling, the kind that shapes how campaigns talk to voters and how organizations make decisions that matter. You light up at the chance to tear apart a crosstab, love obsessing over questionnaire wording, and can sniff out a methodological problem long before it turns into a client problem. You believe Democrats can win more if they use data better, and you're hungry to be part of making that happen. You're not just curious about what AI and new technology can do to the craft of polling; you're genuinely excited to help build what that looks like in practice. If that sounds like the next chapter you've been waiting for, we should talk. You'll be one of Tavern's primary polling voices, running sophisticated studies, owning deliverables, and doing the work that's hard to scale: translating data into sharp, credible guidance on campaigns and policy issues. A big part of this role is editorial: sharpening messaging across a wide range of issues and candidates, pressure-testing findings, and bringing seasoned political judgment to content at every stage of the process. You’ll work closely with our leadership, research, and product teams, and while the role is primarily internal-facing, you’ll also serve as a trusted backstop for client briefings and press interactions when senior leadership needs backup. We value in-person work and expect employees based in Chicago to work regularly from our South Loop office. We also welcome remote candidates, ideally based in Washington, DC. Responsibilities - Research Design & Methodology - Design and execute polling, ad-testing, message-testing, and audience research studies - Develop questionnaires and sampling methodologies with strong methodological rigor - Manage weighting, segmentation, and statistical modeling processes - Demonstrate fluency in RCTs, MaxDiff, conjoint, and other advanced survey designs - Apply a quality-first mindset, catching problems in the data before they become problems for clients - Data Analysis & Insights - Synthesize survey results into clear, actionable strategic recommendations - Identify demographic, geographic, and behavioral trends that shape campaign strategy - Write, edit, and refine persuasive political messaging translating survey research into language that moves target audiences - Conduct cross-tab and subgroup analysis with a practiced eye - Translate findings into written memos, presentations, and briefings that non-experts can act on - Client & External Communication - Deliver in-depth polling briefings to clients and campaign leadership when needed - Engage credibly with press when the moment calls for it, because you understand what reporters are looking for - Represent Tavern's research work with professionalism and political instinct in external settings - Operational Oversight - Manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables across multiple simultaneous projects - Mentor junior researchers and analysts - Coordinate with survey vendors, data teams, and field operations - Ensure compliance with research ethics and privacy standards Qualifications - 7+ years of experience in polling, public opinion research, or political consulting - Strong command of survey methodology and statistical analysis - Experience with polling software and data tools (R, Python, or similar) - Proven ability to synthesize complex data into concise strategic guidance - Experience presenting findings to clients, executives, or campaign leadership - Background on political campaigns or in advocacy organizations - Political instinct; you know what will land clients and what won't - Comfort in external-facing settings: client briefings, press interactions, or conference panels (existing experience or strong willingness to grow into it) - Familiarity with voter files, turnout models, or audience segmentation - Love for using new technology to improve systems and outcomes - Bonus: people management experience - To be explicit: you don't need a degree to work here. You just need to be exceptional at the things we're asking from you. Benefits - Premium health insurance - Unlimited PTO - Office closed for all federal holidays - 401k match - Equity Company Description Tavern Research is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
