Primary Responsibilities: - Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and data scientists specializing in generative AI, machine learning, and cloud-based solutions - Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for GenAI-driven initiatives aligned with PBM business goals - Oversee the architecture, development, and integration of GenAI models into PBM workflows such as prior authorization, formulary management, medication adherence, and claims processing - Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Clinical, Data, and Compliance teams to identify high-impact AI use cases - Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant healthcare regulations in all engineering practices and solutions - Establish best practices for model governance, data privacy, security, and responsible AI use - Evaluate and select appropriate GenAI technologies, frameworks, and vendors - Stay abreast of developments in generative AI, healthcare technology, and regulatory changes - Monitor performance and ROI of GenAI solutions, driving continuous improvement - Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions using no-code, low-code, and advanced platforms, translating business needs into scalable applications that enhance products, workflows and decision-making You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field - 10+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years leading AI/ML teams (preferably with GenAI project experience) - 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), MLOps, and modern engineering practices - 5+ years of experience with Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and relevant GenAI libraries - 2+ years of experience and success deploying generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, foundation models) in production environments for over at least three projects - 1+ years of experience with regulatory requirements and data security in healthcare (HIPAA/HITECH) Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in the healthcare or PBM industry along with a deep understanding of PBM workflows - Proven excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. • Design, build, and maintain production recommendation systems at consumer scale. • Develop ranking and retrieval models to improve personalization and user experience. • Own ML pipelines end-to-end, from feature engineering and training to deployment and monitoring. • Collaborate with client stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver scalable ML solutions. • Analyze large-scale user behavior data and run A/B tests to optimize recommendation performance. • Improve reliability, scalability, and latency of production ML systems on AWS/GCP/Azure.

• Lead and manage a team of Forward-Deployed Machine Learning Engineers (FDMLEs) delivering customer-facing AI and ML solutions from prototyping through production deployment and iteration. • Support team growth through coaching, mentorship, and career development while fostering a strong culture of ownership, customer focus, and operational excellence. • Drive execution in ambiguous, fast-paced environments by enabling rapid experimentation, iterative development, and close cross-functional collaboration. • Partner with Federato leadership across Forward Deployed Engineering, Data Science, and Customer Success to align priorities, delivery expectations, and customer outcomes. • Translate strategic AI initiatives into actionable roadmaps, priorities, and delivery milestones, ensuring projects are effectively scoped, staffed, and executed. • Establish and improve agile workflows tailored to forward-deployed AI and ML work, including sprint planning, technical design reviews, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and operational follow-through. • Serve as the primary coordination point across internal teams and customer stakeholders to ensure alignment, transparency, issue resolution, and successful adoption of deployed solutions. • Drive operational excellence through strong communication, documentation, monitoring, and incident-management practices across customer-facing ML systems.

• Architect and optimize distributed data pipelines to process massive multi-sensor logs. • Develop and tune both heuristic-based and ML-assisted algorithms to automatically classify and describe complex scenarios. • Extract and format scenario data utilizing the Pegasus layer standard to ensure semantic consistency. • Manage the ingestion of tagged events into the observations database, enabling high-speed querying and retrieval for ML training. • Operate with broad autonomy to drive consensus across organizational boundaries, collaborating with downstream consumers. • Guide, mentor, and elevate less-experienced engineers.
