Role Description Looking for Philippines-based candidates. Job Role: Senior Product Manager Compensation range: $2,500 AUD - $3,500 AUD / Monthly Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time. The Senior Product Manager sits at the centre of the production function, taking ownership of the end-to-end delivery of accounting and bookkeeping work. This role ensures all client deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and brought to a near-final standard prior to Senior Client Manager review. It carries responsibility for overseeing workflow, technical review, and quality control across financial statements, tax returns, BAS, payroll, and bookkeeping. A core dimension of the role is leadership through capability building. You will play an active part in developing accountants and bookkeepers, lifting overall team capability by closing technical gaps, improving consistency across outputs, and strengthening both internal processes and training frameworks. This is a hands-on development role where improving others is central to improving overall delivery quality. The role may occasionally step into strategic client discussions alongside the Senior Client Manager. Key Responsibilities: - Partner with the Senior Client Manager to ensure seamless workflow management, effective prioritisation, and timely delivery of accounting and bookkeeping work at a consistently high standard. - Provide day-to-day leadership and technical direction to junior, intermediate, and senior accountants, as well as bookkeepers across multiple levels of experience and locations. - Take ownership of review standards by ensuring financial statements, tax returns, BAS, payroll, and related outputs are progressed to a near-complete state (approximately 90–100%) prior to Senior Client Manager review. - Invest heavily in capability building by training, mentoring, and developing team members to improve technical precision, efficiency, and professional confidence. - Strengthen team capability across financial reporting, taxation, bookkeeping, and payroll through structured guidance and continuous development. - Work closely with the Assistant Client Manager to improve technical consistency, reinforce best practices, and elevate overall output quality across the team. - Oversee a diverse production team spanning Senior, Intermediate, and Graduate Accountants, alongside Bookkeepers operating across onshore and offshore environments. - Proactively identify recurring errors, skill gaps, and inefficiencies, translating them into targeted coaching interventions and process improvements. - Take responsibility for workflow allocation and prioritisation, ensuring work is distributed effectively and delivered within required timeframes. - Balance hands-on technical support with a strong focus on developing autonomy, ownership, and accountability within the team. - Collaborate closely with accounting and bookkeeping staff to resolve complex technical issues and safeguard output quality. - Occasionally contribute to strategic initiatives alongside the Senior Client Manager, including client discussions, software decisions, tax planning input, and structural considerations. - Serve as a critical operational anchor within the production function, ensuring output remains reliable, scalable, and consistently high quality. Teamwork: - Play an active role in developing both Australia-based and offshore accounting and bookkeeping teams, ensuring alignment in standards, expectations, and execution. - Drive consistency in the application of processes, technical frameworks, and operational standards across the entire team. - Contribute to the strengthening of internal knowledge systems by documenting training content, workflows, and technical guidance to support scalable SOP development. - Deliver clear, constructive feedback that strengthens performance, reduces recurring errors, and supports continuous improvement across the team. Soft Skills: - A strong and natural leadership presence with the ability to elevate capability across multiple levels of accounting professionals. - Highly structured and organised, with the discipline to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving production environment. - A strong sense of ownership, taking accountability for both team output and the broader quality of production delivery. - Composed and solution-oriented when navigating technical, operational, or workflow challenges. - Capable of operating independently while maintaining strong coordination across multiple stakeholders and team members. - Genuinely committed to continuous improvement, both in personal capability and in strengthening team performance and systems. Qualifications - 8+ years of accounting experience, including exposure to review work, team mentoring, and production or client service environments. - Strong technical accounting and taxation capability, with the ability to deliver work to a near-final review standard. - Experience preparing Individual Income Tax Returns (including investment income), Income Tax Variations, Tax Planning, and FBT returns. - Experience preparing Financial Statements and Income Tax Returns across Sole Traders, Partnerships, Trusts, Companies, and SMSFs. - Strong working knowledge of Australian tax legislation, including Division 7A, deductions, payroll tax, WorkCover, Stamp Duty, FBT, depreciation rules, SGC obligations, franking credits, trust elections, and TPAR requirements. - Experience preparing and/or reviewing Activity Statements, including GST, PAYGW, PAYGI, WET, FTC, FBT instalments, and GST on imports. - Strong payroll expertise covering terminations, redundancies, salary packaging (including novated leases), allowances, bonuses, commissions, overtime, and leave entitlements. - Understanding of Portable Long Service Leave obligations. Requirements - Strong capability in Xero as the primary accounting platform. - Experience with Xero Practice Manager, XBert, Dext, and Microsoft Office Suite. - Familiarity with practice operations and workflow tools including Practice Protect, Slack, Syft, Ignition, 3CX, ChatGPT, Monday.com, and the ATO Portal. - Exposure to broader accounting and business systems such as QuickBooks, MYOB, BGL, Now Infinity, CanYou, Employment Hero, Odoo, CloudPayroll, Fathom, Deputy, and Float. Preferred - CPA or CA qualification (Australia preferred), with additional value placed on strong practical, hands-on experience in lieu of formal designation where applicable. - ICB or ABN qualification considered advantageous. - Direct experience working with SMSFs, with confidence navigating both compliance and reporting requirements. - Strong working knowledge of CGT calculations relating to property disposals and small business CGT concessions, applied in real-world client scenarios. - Sound understanding of tax planning principles, including tax minimisation strategies and non-commercial loss rules, with the ability to apply these concepts in a practical production environment. - Exposure to advisory and reporting platforms such as Syft, particularly in the context of enhancing financial visibility and decision-support reporting. - Proven experience operating within high-volume, deadline-driven accounting environments, ideally across multiple entities and complex client structures where accuracy, consistency, and efficiency are critical. Professional Development - Ongoing development in technical accounting, taxation, and leadership capability is both expected and actively encouraged. - Participation in industry learning opportunities such as Xerocon, CPA/CA/NTAA workshops, and tax planning seminars may be required. - Continuous refinement of leadership, coaching, and team development capability is a core expectation of the role. - CPD requirements must be maintained. - Occasional travel to collaborate with offshore teams may be required (approximately once every two years) to support alignment and development initiatives. Work Arrangement & Expectations This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement. To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to: - Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work. - Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile (clearly marked as “Independent Contractor”).
