You’ll be hands-on in building the core of Checkmate — the systems and experiences that help brands make smarter moves, faster. Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain responsive and scalable web applications using React and TypeScript. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features that align with user and business needs. - Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while following best practices and industry standards. - Optimize components for maximum performance across various web-capable devices and browsers. - Implement and manage testing, debugging, and automation tools to ensure product quality. - Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. - Stay up-to-date with modern frameworks, tools, and methodologies. - Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making.

• As a Software Engineer on the Platform Team, you will help design and build core platform services and shared capabilities used across multiple product teams. • This includes foundational APIs, data access services, integration frameworks, and internal developer tooling. • Collaborate closely with Senior Platform Engineers, Product Engineering teams, and DevOps/SRE to ensure our platform is scalable, reliable, secure, and easy to build on while actively adopting modern AI-powered engineering workflows. • Ensure platform services are well-documented, versioned, backward compatible, and easy to adopt. • Build internal libraries, SDKs, and tooling that improve developer productivity and consistency. • Design platform services with high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance in mind. • Partner with SRE and DevOps teams to identify and remediate systemic reliability and performance issues.

• Collaborate closely with domain experts to translate requirements into software that is correct, usable, and extensible. • Own and improve internal modeling stacks, including: • Refactoring and modularization for clarity and reuse • Testing strategies that match scientific software realities (golden tests, invariants, property-based testing where useful) • Performance profiling and optimization where it matters • Documentation and developer experience improvements • Design and implement APIs and interfaces that turn working examples into maintainable components. • Build configuration management patterns that make runs reproducible and debuggable. • Implement and maintain orchestration pipelines for simulation ensembles and data validation. • Establish versioning and release practices for internal tooling, including metadata management. • Work primarily in Python and Julia. • Integrate with ML-adjacent components and artifacts (inputs, outputs, model wrappers), without being responsible for inventing new ML methods.

• Own the web app end to end: architecture, implementation, quality, performance, and ongoing operations. • Lead incremental feature delivery for a greenfield product, including shaping milestones and sequencing work into shippable slices. • Build core UI flows for interacting with exploration outputs, including data-heavy views and 3D visualization of geological datasets. • Design clean interfaces to backend services: APIs, auth, permissions, data contracts, error handling, and versioning. • Design resilient, fault-tolerant systems across frontend and backend, with clear operational ownership. • Establish software development standards for the web app: code quality, testing strategy, reviews, release discipline, and documentation. • Design and evolve data storage patterns (relational or NoSQL), including schema design, migrations, and integrity constraints where appropriate. • Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for critical paths. • Configure monitoring and alerting to catch downtime and performance degradation early. • Meet with stakeholders and end users to inform requirements, validate usability, and drive adoption. • Coordinate with design support when needed. You are not expected to be a designer, but you should have strong product taste and push for a high bar.
