• Own and evolve the backend architecture for IoT projects • Make technical trade-off decisions and defend them clearly • Design and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS with production-grade reliability • Lead technical discussions: RFCs, architecture reviews, post-mortems • Mentor other backend engineers • Collaborate closely with firmware engineers, mobile developers, QA, PMs, and clients • Use AI tools as part of your daily workflow • Challenge product and technical assumptions
Job Requirements
- 7+ years of backend development experience
- Deep, hands-on AWS expertise: EKS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Timestream, S3
- Strong Node.js skills in production systems at scale
- Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, and Terraform experience
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and data pipelines
- Experience with MQTT or similar IoT messaging protocols
- CI/CD pipelines designed yourself (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
- English at B2+ minimum, written and spoken
- Ability to translate business needs into technical decisions

Role Description Billee's billing platform processes utility charges for thousands of multifamily properties across the country. This role exists to keep that platform stable, responsive, and moving forward. - Work across two codebases: legacy .NET 4.8 platform (WebForms/MVC) and a newer .NET 8 API layer. - Diagnose production issues, ship bug fixes, implement feature enhancements, and develop REST APIs. - Focus on production reliability and untangling complex systems. - Collaborate with senior architects and a 10-person team.
