Medical and Laboratory Director

Role Description At Vitalant, we are passionate about saving lives and advancing patient care — and we're looking for a Medical & Laboratory Director who shares that passion. In this role, you will provide vital medical oversight for our patients, donors, staff, and healthcare partners in Las Vegas and other areas served by Vitalant. Your work will support key blood center operations like: - Component manufacturing - Laboratory testing - Donor counseling - Product management Additionally, you will oversee clinical services such as: - Transfusion support - Therapeutic apheresis - Cellular therapy collections Areas of specialization include: - Centralized transfusion services - Cellular therapies - Therapeutic apheresis - Immunohematology Reference Laboratory services You’ll collaborate closely with both Corporate and Division teams to help drive Vitalant’s mission to unite blood and biologics donors, talent, and innovation to save and improve lives. As a medical leader, you’ll model the highest standards of ethics, care, and confidentiality, helping position Vitalant as a national Center of Excellence in Transfusion Medicine. Qualifications - MD or DO or equivalent degree required. - Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for assigned areas required. - Knowledge of management principles including human resource management, budget administration, financial analysis, and business administration preferred. - Active applicable state licenses and/or certificates within first 6 months required. - Board certification in Clinical Pathology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or other clinical specialty required. - Board certification in Transfusion Medicine OR Hematology or eligibility followed by certification within two years of employment required. - If acting in any capacity that is regulated by the state of New York (NYS) then NYS Certification of Qualification is required. - Fellowship training or equivalent experience in blood banking/transfusion medicine required. - Experience at a blood center and/or hospital transfusion service including provision of education, clinical consultations, and some combination of therapeutic apheresis, cell therapy, laboratory, immunohematology, etc experience required. - Two years' experience in the fields of assigned duties preferred. Requirements - Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities. - Must be able to maintain confidentiality. - Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities. - Must have a participative management style, strong team development, coaching skills, and the ability to lead and motivate senior and executive-level managers. - Effective oral and written business communication skills. - Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active member of management. - Must have analytical, statistical, personal organization, and problem-solving skills. - Must have proficient computer skills. - Ability to travel (10%+) as needed to support areas of responsibility.
