Extend
• Own the model lifecycle: requirements, experimentation, model development, evaluation, and model cards, partnering with ML engineers on deployment and production infrastructure • Translate complex fraud patterns into well-framed ML solutions: defining what to model, what success looks like, and where ML adds value vs. simpler approaches • Design and maintain feature engineering pipelines for model development • Monitor model quality in production, tracking performance over time, detecting data drift, and determining when to retrain • Partner closely with leadership, go-to-market, fraud operations, product, and engineering teams to define and execute effective fraud strategies • Champion a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and collaboration across the fraud and broader data science teams
Job Requirements
- Hands-on, proactive, and analytical professionals who are passionate about using data to solve complex, real-world problems
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Physics or related field
- 3+ years of work experience building and deploying machine learning systems into production
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
- Strong understanding of ML fundamentals: model selection, evaluation methodology, feature engineering, and common failure modes
- Hands-on experience with PyTorch, scikit-learn, and XGBoost (or similar gradient boosting frameworks)
- High attention to detail, strong intellectual curiosity, and a deep understanding of user behavior and fraud patterns
- Empathetic, humble, and collaborative team player
- Candidates must be located within the continental United States

Reporting to the Associate Director of Actuarial Analytics, you will own the development of ROI models that quantify cost savings and downstream impact for our employer and payer populations. Please note that this is a hybrid role based in New York City, with an expectation to be in the office 2–3 days per week at our 60 Madison Avenue location. Candidates must be based in the NYC metro area or able to relocate independently within 90 days of their start date. Occasional travel will be required for team on-sites. What you’ll do - Build and maintain actuarial ROI models to quantify cost savings, utilization changes, and downstream impact across employer and payer populations - Present ROI findings directly to prospects and clients, distilling complex technical concepts into compelling, executive-ready storytelling - Develop strong partnerships with revenue, product, finance, and data science teams to align on core assumptions - Support emerging product evaluations by refining methodologies and validating financial assumptions - Contribute actuarial expertise to product prototyping and development to help shape scalable financial frameworks - Build custom savings and cost models using Excel and other spreadsheet applications - Query databases using SQL to extract and analyze data to inform model assumptions - Communicate the impact of custom configurations on price and margin to internal stakeholders - Leverage AI tools to enhance the speed and quality of results delivered to our customers - Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure actuarial rigor is applied to all external-facing financial metrics What success looks like in this role - Develop a deep understanding of how Spring Health delivers value to customers, specifically through health plan integration - Clearly communicate analytical concepts and financial results to both technical and non-technical audiences, including customers and internal leadership - Successfully partner with cross-functional teams to launch ROI measurement frameworks for new products - Stay current on ROI methodologies and macroeconomic trends impacting medical insurance to ensure our models remain industry-leading What you’ll bring - Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (ASA or FSA) designation - 5+ years of experience in financial or actuarial analysis - Hands-on experience working with medical claims data, including ICD-10 and CPT codes - Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience writing SQL queries to retrieve data - Ability to work independently and align priorities with cross-functional stakeholders - A focus on progress over perfection, with the ability to remain poised in a fast-paced environment - Experience working on small, agile teams or within a startup environment (preferred) - Experience in external-facing roles or client presentations (preferred) - Experience in vendor evaluation or benefits consulting (preferred) - Prior exposure to statistical inference methods or experience working with R (preferred) The target base salary range for this position is $159,000 - $196,480, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including equity and benefits.
