We currently have over 400 employees specializing in public works, building and safety, planning, engineering, and real estate acquisition.  In our 20+ years, we have attracted the best in our professions and are positioned for continued growth and success.   We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Structural Plans Examiner to join our team of professionals.  This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of exciting and dynamic work assignments.  You’ll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.  RESPONSIBILITIES: - Reviews plans and specifications for projects to ensure compliance with city, State of CA, and federal laws and regulations. Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications. - Provide excellent customer service - Review building permits with regards to regulations set by the Building Divisions - Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments. - Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers such as directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: - Experience with CA Codes specific to Structural design - Experience/knowledge of wood, concrete, steel and masonry buildings/structures, including CBC, CRC, ASCE7, NDS, AISC, ACI318, ACI530 and AISI standards. - Experience/knowledge of wood, steel and concrete lateral load resisting systems (SMF, OMF, BRBF, SCBF, wood and concrete shear walls, etc.) - Experience/knowledge of structural design software (i.e. ENERCALC, ETABS, SAP, RISA, ADAPT, HILTI Profis, Simpson Anchor design, etc.) - Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology - Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions - Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital - Good time management, organization, and attention to detail - Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment - Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office - Ability to produce quality plan reviews on time and within budget EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - Structural Professional Engineer required - CASp certification preferred - ICC Building Plan Review Certifications Preferred - Valid driver’s license with good driving record - E.I.T. on track to obtain PE license is acceptable. - 5+ years' experience in structural design and structural plan review.
