Job Description

Team Lead - GameFabric (Multiplayer Servers)

marbis GmbH

Role Description You will lead the engineering team behind GameFabric's Multiplayer Servers platform - the core product that game studios from indie to AAA rely on to orchestrate, scale, and operate their multiplayer game server fleets in production. This is a leadership role with a strong technical foundation. You own your team's delivery, drive technical decisions together with your senior engineers, and translate product priorities into a plan the team can execute against with confidence. GameFabric is a developer-first multiplayer server orchestration platform built on Agones, Kubernetes, and a hybrid bare-metal-plus-cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud and BYOC). The platform is API-first with a dedicated Terraform provider, and is used in production by game studios shipping titles at scale. You will report directly to the Head of B2B, who owns GameFabric end-to-end - including its technical direction - and reports to the CTO. This means a short path between business goals, product priorities, and engineering execution, and a leadership counterpart who is deeply technical and engages directly on architecture and trade-offs. You will lead a team of five experienced engineers (three backend, two frontend) and collaborate closely with peer teams across SRE, SteelShield, Customer Success, and Product. Your mission - Lead and develop a team of experienced engineers - running healthy manager fundamentals (1:1 cadence, feedback, growth conversations) and creating an environment of clear expectations and accountability. - Own delivery for your team end-to-end: convert priorities into an executable plan, manage scope and dependencies, surface risks early, and keep delivery predictable. - Translate OKRs and business priorities into a clear technical plan for your team. - Drive technical decisions together with your senior engineers, and act as a credible technical counterpart in design discussions. - Ensure technical feasibility, dependencies, and scope are validated before sprint commitment. - Drive alignment with Product, SRE, SteelShield, and Customer Success - proactively identifying and resolving cross-team dependencies before they block delivery. - Establish and uphold engineering standards: definition of ready, release readiness, code review. - Communicate delivery status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership and across teams. Qualifications - Experience leading engineering teams in a complex technical environment. - Solid working knowledge of distributed systems and modern cloud-native infrastructure (Kubernetes-based environments, container orchestration). - Track record of converting product input into structured engineering work. - Demonstrated ability to own delivery outcomes end-to-end. - Experience translating priorities and objectives into team plans and managing them through to delivery. - Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences. Nice to have - Experience with Go (our primary backend language). - Background in multiplayer, real-time, or other latency-sensitive systems. - Experience working closely with SRE or platform teams. - Experience with API-first products and developer tooling. Benefits - Gaming at Heart: We provide free Nitrado Game Servers for gamers and a welcoming community for anyone who wants to feel at home. - Flexible working hours: Tailor your work hours to your personal needs for a better work-life balance. - Remote work: Our agile teams collaborate seamlessly from their preferred location. - Work from Abroad: Extend your workspace beyond national borders with our support for remote work from abroad. - Mental Health: We support your mental well-being with our annual Mental Health Day. - Physical Health: Our office infrastructure provides state-of-the-art workspaces with ergonomic design. - Professional Development: Utilize training opportunities to develop and stay current with your skills. - Company Pension Plan: We support your financial security for the future with an attractive contribution. - Working Environment: You'll experience a respectful and friendly workplace culture. - Vacation and Paid Time Off: Enjoy 30 days of vacation and additional paid leave for special occasions. - International Collaboration: We successfully overcome time zones and language barriers. - Social Activities: Strengthen your commitment and team cohesion through team-building events. - Long-Term Stability: With over two decades of experience, we are a reliable employer. - Get together: Work hard, play hard - We come together twice a year for our company celebrations. - Modern Workspaces: Our office infrastructure offers state-of-the-art workspaces with ergonomic design. - Corporate Culture and Values: You become part of a positive corporate culture that embraces values such as diversity and inclusion.
