Test Automation Engineer

Role Description You will be responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and correctness of complex applications across web, API, database, and mobile layers. You will: - Design and execute functional, regression, and integration test cases. - Analyze system behavior end to end. - Investigate defects by validating data, API responses, and application logs. - Work closely with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders in an Agile environment. - Contribute to delivering stable, high-quality software solutions that meet both business and technical requirements. Qualifications - Strong experience in functional, regression, and integration testing of complex, distributed systems across web, API, database, and mobile platforms. - Solid understanding of end-to-end system architectures, including how frontend, backend services, APIs, and databases interact. - Proficient in API testing (REST/JSON), including validation of request/response payloads, error handling, and edge cases (e.g. using Postman, REST clients, or similar tools). - Strong SQL skills – ability to write, optimize, and debug complex queries for test data preparation, validation, and root-cause analysis. - Good understanding of database concepts (relational databases, data modeling, normalization). - Experience analyzing and troubleshooting issues using application logs, API logs, and system logs to identify root causes. - Hands-on experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g. Jira, Xray, TestRail). - Experience with Monitoring tools and logs analysis (Graylog). - Understanding of mobile application testing, including functional testing on iOS and Android (emulators/simulators and/or real devices). - Experience or strong interest in test automation using: - Java with Selenium, or JavaScript/TypeScript with Playwright. - Ability to understand existing automation frameworks, contribute new automated tests, and maintain test suites. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how automated tests fit into build and deployment processes is a plus. Requirements - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially when working with complex systems and non-obvious defects. - High attention to detail and accuracy in test execution, data validation, and defect reporting. - Ability to analyze failures, distinguish between test issues and product defects, and clearly articulate findings. - English language knowledge and communication skills to collaborate effectively with developers, product owners, architects, and other QA members. - Ability to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into clear, effective test scenarios and test cases. - Proactive mindset in identifying risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities early in the development lifecycle. - Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments with frequent releases and changing priorities. Nice-to-Have - Experience testing microservices-based architectures. - Familiarity with cloud environments and cloud-native applications. - Experience with performance, reliability, or security testing at a basic level. - German language knowledge.
