Role Description We are hiring a Financial Controller, Head of Accounting to own the company’s core controllership function. This is a narrow, high-accountability controllership role. We want a strong finance operator with deep competence in controllership, financial close, financial and management accounting, reporting, and finance systems. For matters outside the Controller’s core body of knowledge, the expectation is that the Controller remains accountable for the result by selecting, coordinating, and project-managing external specialists effectively, while leading the work to the results. The right candidate is both a strong subject-matter professional in core finance and an effective manager of complex workstreams involving internal stakeholders and outsourced advisors. Key Responsibilities - Controllership and financial close - Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across multiple legal entities. - Own general ledger integrity, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, deferrals, foreign exchange accounting, and close documentation. - Maintain a well-structured chart of accounts, accounting policies, and supporting schedules. - Deliver timely, accurate, audit-ready financial information to the CFO. - Identify material risks, unusual transactions, accounting issues, and control gaps proactively and solve them. - Implement effective internal controls over financial reporting. - Revenue recognition and project accounting - Oversee management accounting, work-in-progress, and revenue recognition for a project-based services business. - Apply appropriate revenue recognition methodology under IFRS 15 and corresponding US GAAP principles where relevant. - Coordinate closely with delivery and FP&A to ensure project economics are reflected accurately in the accounting records. - Improve the quality of project-level margin reporting, billing logic, and financial visibility. - Accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash, and payroll accounting - Oversee billing, collections, aged receivables, vendor payables, payment controls, and treasury routines. - Review and approve daily bank reconciliations, payment journals. - Act as finance process owner for payroll accounting and ensure payroll journals, taxes, benefits, withholdings, and allocations are recorded accurately. - Support year-end payroll and contractor reporting requirements in coordination with internal and external providers. - Intercompany, fixed assets, and consolidation support - Oversee group consolidation procedures, intercompany accounting, reconciliations, eliminations, and supporting schedules. - Maintain fixed asset accounting and depreciation records, accounting for tax differences due to tax and GAAP rules. - Systems ownership and process design - Serve as the finance functional owner for Quickbooks and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. - Help lead finance process design, implementation, and continuous improvement in Business Central and related systems. - Maintain finance master data, policy documentation, and workflows documentation. - Partner with external ERP consultants, implementation partners, and internal stakeholders to resolve system and process issues effectively. - Drive automation and standardization across close, reporting, billing, payroll accounting, and project accounting. - External tax compliance advisor management - Coordinate the work of external accounting, tax, payroll, and audit providers across jurisdictions. - Support audits and external reviews. - Own timelines, deliverables, escalation, and quality control for outsourced workstreams. - Act as the company’s accountable finance lead even where specialized technical work is delegated externally. - Distinguish clearly between matters that should be handled internally as core controllership work and matters that should be referred to specialist advisors. - Business support - Partner with FP&A to improve management reporting, accounting dimensions, and data quality. - Partner with FP&A to support Power BI or similar reporting outputs for financial and operating KPIs. - Team leadership - Lead, coach, and manage a small accounting team and a network of tax, audit, and implementation partners. - Set clear expectations for accuracy, discipline, ownership, and timeliness. - Help build a finance culture centered on rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement. Qualifications - 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, audit, and controllership. - Proven experience in a controllership or finance leadership role. - Prior management experience leading accounting staff and coordinating external service providers or advisors. - Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is strongly preferred; implementation or post-go-live optimization experience is strongly preferred. - Strong technical accounting knowledge under IFRS and/or US GAAP. - Experience with monthly close, reconciliations, controls, management reporting, and multi-entity accounting. - Experience in a project-based or services-based business environment is strongly preferred. - Strong Excel capability and comfort working with structured reporting models. - Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to lead meetings, explain technical issues clearly, draft documentation, and communicate effectively with North American stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications - CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification (preferred, but not a requirement). - A Big 4 or comparable audit background is strongly preferred. - Experience supporting international operations across multiple jurisdictions. - Experience with intercompany accounting, payroll accounting, and consolidation. - Experience partnering with FP&A on management reporting and BI outputs.
