Role Description iCivics is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to analyze and process data from its diverse array of product and programming. The majority of the role will focus on data produced by the core ed.icivics.org website, that is visited by 140,000+ and an estimated 9 million students a year. This role will also be in charge of: - Lookback impact studies - Analyzing annual teacher survey data - Analyzing annual policy landscape report data - Various other projects related to professional development and core curriculum data needs - Constructing dashboards as needed In this fully remote position, you will work closely with iCivics’ Principal Data Scientist. This is an exciting opportunity to process real-world, large educational datasets to inform how students engage with learning platforms in educational settings. You will operate at the intersection of machine learning, learning science, impact research, and product development. Qualifications - 5+ years of professional experience in a data science role, ideally in the Edtech space - Proven track record of using data science analyses to drive product recommendations and/or impact analyses with large-scale datasets - Mastery of statistical techniques and experimental design, especially in the context of educational evaluation - Mastery level knowledge of SQL, and R/Python (R is preferred) - Deep knowledge in constructing BI and data dashboard tools (Tableau is preferred) - Interest in the field of Education or Civics - Creative problem-solving skills - Ability to communicate complex data results clearly Requirements - Lead the analysis of data-driven impact studies, including a lookback study using quasi-experimental techniques - Lead the design, analysis, and reporting around an annual teacher survey - Lead the analysis and reporting, in partnership with the policy team, around an annual policy landscape analysis - Conduct data collection and inform the design around impact studies about the iCivics website - Mentor interns and other data team members as appropriate - Build BI dashboards as needed - Analyze data for product and program improvement recommendations - Communicate findings to other teams Benefits - Health First: Medical options with $0 deductible (covered by us) - True Flexibility: 100% remote (US) with flexible hours to fit your life - Abundant Rest: 5 weeks PTO + Winter Break + Summer Fridays + a guaranteed 4-day July 4th weekend - Family Support: 12 weeks of 100% paid parental leave - Growth & Connection: Annual professional development stipend and an in-person annual staff retreat to bond with your team Salary The anticipated starting salary for this role is between $100,000 – $120,000, with final offers scaled to reflect any unique experience and specialized skills.
