Engineers in Solid Mechanics apply their knowledge of engineering mechanics, state-of-the-art computational simulation (finite element analysis) methods, material sciences and solid dynamics to solve a wide variety of complex structural-mechanical problems, to support the engineering of practical design solutions, to undertake risk assessments, and to assess manufacturing processes. Engineers apply Navy and Industry methods and criteria as well as develop customized analysis plans, methods and acceptance criteria; oversee physical testing; and resolve construction/fabrication issues to support all aspects of Electric Boats Submarine business. Engineers author technical reports, presentations and formal correspondence. Engineers work in a team environment with engineers of all disciplines, and with members of design, testing and construction/fabrication departments. They also work with experts across the Navy, industry and academia. Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home.
