Job Description

Underwriter

Splitero

Role Description As an Underwriter at Splitero, you will make risk assessment decisions on applications for our Home Equity Investment (HEI) product, a modern alternative to traditional financing with no income requirements or monthly payments. In this pivotal role, you will analyze risk factors against our underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures, and partner closely with our Processing team and homeowners to bring files to closing with clarity and purpose. - Own your pipeline from initial review through final approval, maintaining a consistent daily review cadence and meeting quality standards measured through regular QA review of your files. - Identify the right conditions for each file: purposeful, proportionate, and defensible, and communicate the reasoning clearly to processors and homeowners. - Ensure title to the property is free of restrictions, leases, liens, and other encumbrances, and identify the specific conditions needed to cure any title issues. - Conduct thorough appraisal reviews, identifying value concerns, property condition flags, and comparables that may affect the investment decision. - Review and analyze loan modifications to assess their impact on lien position, product features, and eligibility. - Review trust documentation to confirm vesting, trustee authority, and compliance with Splitero guidelines. - Monitor and approve that all conditions are met prior to funding. The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 per year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience underwriting residential real estate or home equity products. - Deep experience reviewing and analyzing credit reports, property title reports, appraisal reports, mortgage statements, deeds of trust, and recorded instruments such as loan modification agreements and UCC filings. - Strong title curative knowledge: you understand what specific conditions are needed to resolve liens, encumbrances, and title exceptions, and you can explain the why clearly. - Strong appraisal review skills, including the ability to identify value concerns, property condition issues, and unsupported comparables. - Solid understanding of loan modifications, including their impact on lien position, product features, and how they factor into the underwriting decision. - Trust review experience is a significant plus, with familiarity with trust vesting, trustee authority, and the documentation needed to confirm homeowner eligibility. - A calibrated, purposeful approach to conditioning: you ask what each condition is curing, condition with precision, and can provide your reasoning to processors and sales in plain language. - A collaborative communicator who sees processors and homeowners as partners and gives context with every condition, not just a list. - A creative problem solver who approaches complex files with curiosity and finds ways to get homeowners across the finish line. - Experience with loan processing systems or robust CRM systems such as Salesforce. - Incredible attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in every aspect of your work. - The ability to work efficiently and independently on your pipeline. - Availability to work until 6pm PST strongly preferred. - Adaptability: Embraces change with resilience and positivity. - Team Oriented: Prioritizes collaboration, inclusivity, and teammate support. Benefits - Fully Remote Team - Our remote-first culture allows us to hire the best people, regardless of location. - OneTeam Culture - We foster a culture of transparency, innovation, and inclusivity, where every voice is heard and every team member is valued. - Generous Resources - We want to ensure you are set up to do your best work. In addition to a solid tech stack, and access to any WeWork location, you will receive a monthly cell and internet stipend. - Premium Healthcare - We offer comprehensive healthcare plans for you and your family, which employees are eligible for on their first day. - Flexible PTO and Parental Leave - We offer a generous PTO and encourage employees to take time off to recharge. We're proud to offer a parental leave policy that allows you to welcome your new addition without worry.
