Virtual Controller

• Operate as a consultant within our finance team and provide ongoing controllership support to clients in a broad range of industries. • Help to organize, delegate to, and mentor teams of Cloud Accountants. • Work with an awesome team of supportive and highly experienced virtual CFOs. • Manage the activities of teams processing financial transactions, payroll and benefit administration. • Produce and review monthly and annual financial reports for management, board and stakeholders. • Manage cash effectively, providing rolling cash flow forecast updates quarterly at a minimum, or more frequently as required. • Support the management team with business analyses. • Manage relationships with audit firms for annual audit and income tax activities, and managing sales tax/employment matters in both Canada and the U.S. • Manage financial, operational, and administrative systems and policies, and recommend changes and improvements as the business grows.

Job Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience in a range of small and mid-sized organizations.
  • Knowledge/experience in a range of finance and back-office functions, including accounting, budgeting, tax, audit, payroll, systems/IT.
  • The ability and desire to oversee, train and mentor teams of junior accountants.
  • The ability to evaluate accounting systems and controls, and produce financial statements, cash flow statements, analyses, and forecasts.
  • Proficiency in a range of accounting software – particularly QBO – along with the ability to learn new systems.
  • A suite of interpersonal, communication and leadership skills that enable you to effectively advise and collaborate with operations and management staff.
  • Smarts, confidence, humility, and a collaborative nature.
  • The highest ethical standards.
  • The ability to express and explain ideas and vision in a clear and compelling manner, orally and in writing.

As our accounting leader, you’ll build core processes from scratch, lead our ERP selection and implementation, and create the financial infrastructure we’ll rely on for audits, fundraising, and multi-state expansion. This is a true builder role — not inheriting a fully built function, but designing the systems, controls, and processes that will scale with the company. Role type: W2, Full-Time, Salaried position Salary range: 200k cash OTE plus competitive equity package Location: Remote WHAT YOU'LL DO Build and Lead the Accounting Function Own core processes including month-end close, reconciliations, controls, and reporting. Design scalable accounting policies and workflows. Lead the transition from outsourced accounting function to fully in-house Lead ERP Selection and Implementation Evaluate and select a modern ERP (NetSuite, Intacct, Rillit, etc.) with cross-functional partners. Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Rippling, and Maxio (or comparable tools). Prior experience in public accounting or consulting is a plus. Merger and acquisition experience is a strong advantage.
