• Extract relevant data from information provided by others and input it into spreadsheets or standard formats. • Using statistical methods, data mining techniques, and other tools to analyze data and identify patterns, trends, and relationships. • Understanding the meaning and implications of the analysis findings, drawing conclusions, and identifying potential solutions to business problems. • Presenting data insights through charts, graphs, dashboards, and other visual tools to make the information easily understandable to stakeholders. • Design, test, and refine statistical algorithms on real-world consumer data.

Job Requirements

  • Pursuing undergrad degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
  • At least one year of college degree completed (Sophomore or Junior in College at the time of offer)
  • Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, and programming languages
  • Understanding of statistical concepts, methods, and tools.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Role Description The University of Wisconsin Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced Research Scientist to serve as the on-site research leader of Dr. Tamara Scerpella’s longitudinal study of Bone Health, based at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. This position will facilitate all aspects of the lab’s research, collaborating between SUNY Upstate Medical University and the University of Wisconsin to ensure ongoing research continues, and will be a key team member in preparation and of publications and delivery of presentations based upon this work. This position is part-time, 50% and will be remote, requiring work to be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Key Job Responsibilities - Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. - Publishes and presents results to help advance research. - Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding. - Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures. - Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information. - Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities. - Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area. - Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures. - May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues. Qualifications - 10+ years of experience in orthopedics-related research. - Experience in the preparation and submission of publications and presentations. Preferred Qualifications - 10+ years of experience in longitudinal research studies of human growth, specifically through bone densitometry and body composition assessment. - 2 years of experience with collaboration spanning multiple institutions. Education - Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field is required. Compensation The starting salary/hourly wage for the position is $80,000 annually, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
