Job Requirements

A key leader within the finance organization, who will be responsible for all aspects of division accounting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in our accounting processes. The Division Controller is responsible for providing leadership in finance and accounting, the proper management and summarization of day-to-day transactional accounting, and optimization of the financial close process. This role is essential as we strive to operate with the rigor and transparency of a public company, even as we work towards that goal. With three direct reports and a total staff of 10 people, the successful candidate will be a hands-on, thoughtful and inspiring leader who will focus on effectuating positive changes in the financial organization with the goal of bringing the accounting organization to a best-in-class standard. Work location: hybrid – Houston, Texas or Atlanta, Georgia. Key Responsibilities: • Accounting leader for a $4B Revenue Segment. • Oversee the activities of the North America Division Accounting Department for the accurate and timely creation and dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal monthly financial statements, reconciliations of accounts, finalization of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes, and support of budget to actual variance research. • Lead the division’s financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial results, including appropriate review processes and balance sheet reconciliations. • Lead direct staff and oversee accounting activities of indirect accounting teams across the five regions within the division, working closely with Regional Finance Leaders. • Provide oversight to a Global Business Services (GBS) offshore shared services team supporting day-to-day transactional accounting operations, driving process improvements and efficiencies. • Job-Cost Review: Oversee job-cost review procedures to ensure proper revenue accounting and cost allocation, particularly in complex projects within the refinery and petrochemical sectors. • Customer Audits: Manage audits of billing to large refinery and petrochemical clients, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and accurate financial representation, communicating results to various stakeholders. • Establish and maintain an internal control environment consistent with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, ensuring adherence to internal controls and best practices. • Lead the division accounting team to serve as a strong business partner across the company, contributing to key strategic initiatives, such as internal optimization projects. • Indirect Tax: Support sales and use tax efforts, working closely with corporate tax to ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax liabilities. • Work closely with Operations, FP&A, and Corporate teams to ensure achievement of strategic objectives. • Be a trusted advisor to the Chief Accounting Officer and member of the Accounting Leadership Team and responsible for regular and direct interface with other senior staff, as well as the company’s internal auditors, independent auditors, and relevant authorities. • Recruit, develop, and effectively manage a competent and engaged staff capable of exceeding assigned annual goals. Qualifications: • Undergraduate and/or graduate degrees required in accounting or finance. • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required, with a very strong understanding of US GAAP. • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience working in financial and operational roles related to GAAP, financial reporting, project accounting for revenue recognition, as well as managing team members in multiple locations. • Experience managing accounting activities within financial accounting systems. • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to gain the confidence and respect of senior level executives and external partners. • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive timelines. • Ability to develop creative approaches and the solutions necessary to resolve complex problems • Excellent listening, verbal, written and presentation communication skills. Role Description The controller will oversee all reporting operations handled by the Accounting & Reporting team, including GL, Cash Reconciliation, A/R, A/P, Payroll, Revenue Recognition, and all activities required to close the books each month. You will also own and direct month-end and year-end close processes. The buck stops with you with timely and accurate close of the books and monthly / quarterly / annual reporting to both leadership and Alpine Software Group, our HoldCo. Typical Functions: - Ensure quality control and accuracy over financial transactions and financial reporting. - Own maintenance and quality management of the COA and GL reporting system. - Support the preparation of the budget and monthly financial forecasts, as needed. - Oversee and finalize the preparation of flux reports and associated analyses. - Research any technical accounting issues, as needed, for compliance. - Lead the annual audit process for Actabl. - Oversee and lead compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, as needed. Ensure compliance is consistent and fully met. - Own foreign entity registrations and associated annual reporting and compliance. - Develop, and oversee the development of, business and accounting process documentation to maintain and strengthen internal controls and policies. - Oversee the AP process within guidelines and DPO. - Oversee and, when needed, process payroll. Coordinate with the HR team to ensure compliance of hiring within approved geographies. - Support the VP Finance on cash management and treasury, including owning the set up and management of merchant accounts, cash reporting, etc. - Manage the Accounting & Reporting team. Must have proven experience successfully managing the annual audit process with external auditors. - Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Experience with ASC 606 is required; experience in recurring revenue businesses is highly desired. - Deep experience with creating financial statements and completing timely and accurate monthly and annual reporting. - Experience with using modern AI tools to increase your productivity, including summarizing information, drafting and refining content, analyzing data patterns, and supporting decision-making in your day-to-day work. - Deep experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process. Experience with multiple accounting systems a plus. - Excellent accounting software user and administration skills. • Ensure all daily accounting activities and financial statement data are prepared in accordance with GAAP and regulatory agency requirements. • Manage and supervise assigned staff, providing guidance and escalation support as needed. • Review and approve staff accounting entries to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Assist with Accounting Systems, including implementing software for GL, travel and expense, reconciliation tools, accounts payable, and others as needed. • Participate in the review, interpretation, and clarification of technical accounting for several concepts including leases, taxes, income and expense recognition and cutoff, and more. • Develop streamlined processes for entries, including allocations between the Company’s segments, branches, and CCBX partners. • Specific areas of supervision may include: daily cash position, CD investments, security investments, fixed assets and prepaids, accounts payable, coordinating monthly certification of GL, borrowings, leases, and payroll and stock equity award accounting. • Supervise daily accounting processes including journal entries, intercompany clearing, posting callbacks, and monitoring daily balance sheet and income statement activity. • Supervise month-end close process and general ledger personnel. • Prepare or supervise preparation of regulatory reporting including FR2900 reporting, Reg W, FHLB or other collateral safekeeping and audits, and assisting with others like Call Report or FR Y-9 reporting. • Provide accounting assistance to business partners as needed throughout the company. • Perform monthly analysis of revenue, expense, and actual/budget variances and identify reasons for differences. • Assist with preparation of financial schedules for internal auditors, external auditors, and regulators. • Prepare or supervise preparation of state and local taxes as well as the monthly and quarterly income tax provision. • Assist with the preparation of quarterly federal tax payments and Corporate tax returns. • Ensure department is performing in accordance with internal policies/procedures and regulatory compliance rules and regulations. • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external teams. • Develop and implement efficient accounting policies, procedures, and best practices. • Own, maintain, and oversee the implementation of department procedures, recommending process improvements to management.
