Underwriting Analyst

• Build pricing and underwriting models and analyses to guide new deal pricing and review of existing pricing arrangements. • Perform detailed medical cost, utilization, and trend analyses to support rate development and pricing recommendations. • Evaluate profitability of quotes, renewals, and book-level performance relative to pricing assumptions. • Track performance of existing contracts. • Support evaluation of risk and pricing strategies for new and existing products through multiple scenarios, such as base, downside and upside cases. • Analyze and assess the integrity of the data being used for underwriting. • Identify and recommend mechanisms and contract terms that mitigate known and unknown risks and uncertainties. • Partner with operations, medical economics / business analytics, product, sales, account management and others as appropriate.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in underwriting or pricing within a health plan
  • Experience in healthcare, value-based care, or insurance industries, M&A and private equity are a plus.
  • Experience working in private equity-backed organizations.
  • Prior exposure building and presenting materials to boards and executives.
  • High proficiency in financial and analytical modeling
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
  • Understanding of financial statements, health care data, and performance management metrics.

Role Description We are seeking a Field Production Underwriter who will be responsible for underwriting and marketing accounts throughout approved states/territories. The WC Production Underwriter is a key part of the production underwriting capabilities of AWCS. The Production Underwriter will own the results of their book of business and will engage in activities tied to risk selection and customer service. They are also responsible for the development, production, profitability, and management of their agency distribution network. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities - Own the results of their book of business and be compensated on annual and long-term profitability. - Maintain balance between distribution and risk selection to drive profitable growth. - Understand how their book fits into the broader portfolio strategy. - Develop and maintain agent/broker relationships. - Engage in activities to generate submissions. - Maintain and lead the relationship with assigned agents. - Engage in activities to close accounts. Relationship Management - Work with key internal stakeholders to develop and maintain product-specific business development plans. - Lead in the education of the broker market on the products. - Raise the profile of AWCS within the broker community. - Track metrics around broker engagements and maintain actions and follow-ups from visits. - Ensure regular engagement with brokers through virtual/face-to-face meetings.
