Job Description

Operational AI Automation Developer

Softchoice

Role Description The Operational AI Automation Builder is a hands-on AI builder who accelerates operational modernization by turning solution designs into shipped scalable automations across the Microsoft Power Platform. Reporting to the Director, Customer Success & Operations Improvement, you will partner closely with a Sr. Operational Automation & AI Specialist (solution architect/process designer) to execute step-by-step automation designs using Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, and Microsoft’s broader AI & automation toolset. This role is ideal for an advanced citizen developer who thrives on delivery: building dependable workflows, apps, and copilots that reduce manual effort, improve quality, and create repeatable operational capabilities. You will also contribute to the “run” side of automation by maintaining and improving existing solutions and help elevate operational maturity by coaching and enabling other citizen developers. What you will do: - Build & Implement (≈70%) - Build end-to-end automations from provided solution designs, including: - Power Automate cloud flows (approvals, orchestration, notifications, integrations) - Power Apps (Canvas and/or Model-driven) for operational workflows and data capture - Copilot Studio copilots/agents to support internal users and standardize knowledge/process execution - Implement data models and solutions using Dataverse, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, and other operational data sources. - Configure and use connectors, expressions, and error handling patterns to ensure automations are robust and supportable. - Produce implementation documentation (build notes, deployment steps, and user guides) to support adoption and long-term maintainability. - Partner with the Sr. Operational Automation & AI Specialist to clarify requirements, validate build intent, and iterate quickly as designs evolve. - Operate & Maintain (≈20%) - Monitor live automations and apps; troubleshoot issues, resolve failures, and implement improvements. - Implement reliable operational practices: logging, alerting, retries, exception handling, and performance tuning. - Manage solution lifecycle activities: environment hygiene, versioning, packaging in solutions, release notes, and controlled deployments (ALM practices appropriate to the team’s maturity). - Support governance and risk controls by aligning with platform standards (e.g., DLP policies, access management, and data handling practices). - Able to work within defined platform conventions and standards (naming conventions, connection references, error handling standards, solution structure, shared component library, and ALM workflows). - Enable & Scale Citizen Development (≈10%) - Support adoption by contributing to templates and “how-to” guides for common patterns. - Support Sr. AI & Automation Specialist with coaching and training emerging citizen developers through office hours, workshops, and peer reviews. - Promote best practices for build quality, documentation, testing, and safe automation development. Qualifications - 3-5 years of Automation Experience with demonstrated hands-on experience building solutions with: - Power Apps (Canvas and/or Model-driven) - Power Automate (cloud flows; bonus for desktop/RPA) - Copilot Studio - Strong capability to implement from defined requirements/designs and deliver working solutions with high quality. - Working knowledge of Microsoft ecosystem tools commonly paired with Power Platform (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Forms). - Experience with Git-based source control and Azure DevOps (repos, pipelines, work items). - Practical understanding of maintainability: error handling, monitoring, environment management, and documentation. - Strong communication skills and comfort partnering with process owners, SMEs, and technical stakeholders. - Experience with Dataverse schema design, security roles, and model-driven apps. - Exposure to AI Builder, Microsoft Copilot capabilities, or integrating intelligent components into workflows. - Familiarity with Power Platform governance concepts: solutions, environments, DLP policies, CoE patterns. - Experience building reusable components, templates, and standard patterns that scale citizen development. - Power Platform certifications (PL-100, PL-200, PL-400, PL-600) are an asset. Requirements - A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position in Ottawa is $69,750 to $93,000 annually + 8% target incentives. - Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including location, experience, skill set, education, and related certification. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Benefits - Health and Wellbeing: Medical and Dental Care, Employee & Family Assistance Program - Financial Benefits: RRSP/DPSP Retirement Savings Plan with Company Matching, Life and Disability Insurance - Paid Time Off: Vacation and Sick Leave, Holidays, Parental Leave, Volunteer Days, Bereavement Leave - Additional Perks: Employee Discount Program
