Mechanical Engineer II

KONE

• Work on elevator modernization projects for the purpose of planning, designing, and/or developing products, machines and other mechanical improvements • Support installation of such equipment • Work closely with other engineering disciplines in the development and application of designs to improve product quality, efficiency and reliability • Carry out assignments associated with design or development and manufacture of specific parts and components within various phases of a project • May coordinate the activities of Level I engineers or technicians assigned to specific projects • Ability to select materials based on several factors including strength requirements, environmental impacts, fatigue life, manufacturability, and overall cost

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive and successful experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Knowledgeable in reading, understanding, and interpreting ASME / B44 / EN 115 Safety Code(s)
  • Skillful in creating detailed engineering part drawings, assembly drawings and component BOM’s using design software suite like Creo, Windchill, and AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with FEA modeling and interpretation is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability in managing both strategic and tactical work streams as both an individual contributor and in a large project environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to top management, branch personnel, and/or KONE customers
  • Demonstrated application of industry codes and standards within field of work

Role Description As a Lead Design Engineer, you will oversee the development and analysis of complex technical products, processes, and systems. You will be responsible for the development of custom field welding and machining tooling systems and interface with Field Operations, incumbent design engineers, and fabrication to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues along with documenting solutions to ensure configuration control. You will report to the Engineering Manager, Welding and Machining and work remotely. Travel to nuclear power plants and obtaining unescorted access may be required. - Prepare 3D models of tooling designs and systems using Autodesk Inventor, including detailed drawings. - Perform calculations to determine validity of design (strength of materials, mechanics, machine design). - Tooling system qualification and proof of concept testing. - Ensure the manufacturing, testing, and service operations are receiving technical support. - Support Manufacturing operations with disposition of technical issues which occur during manufacturing. - Support Assembly operations with system assembly and bench tests. - Conduct qualification testing and prepare data. - Trouble-shoot operations and equipment assembly. - Support field deployment of self-designed systems and legacy systems. Qualifications - 8+ years of experience in mechanical design - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent - M.S. Degree in Engineering discipline or M.B.A is preferred - Understand and application of part tolerancing for assembly and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). - Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault or equivalent software. - Experience with FEA software such as Ansys or equivalent. Requirements - The base salary range for this position is estimated to be $116,800.00 to $146,000.00 per year, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and skills.
