Job Description
Backend Tech Lead – Engineering Platform, IDP, Backstage
Internas
• Lead the technical implementation and evolution of engineering platforms (IDP) based on Backstage, defining the architecture vision, roadmap, and deployment. • Drive the migration strategy from legacy platforms to the new IDP, ensuring safe, gradual transitions aligned with business objectives. • Make and defend foundational architectural decisions (template patterns, environment, plugin/extension strategy, catalog), balancing cost, performance, risk, and time-to-value. • Implement patterns and guardrails for CI/CD, IaC, observability, security, and platform operations. • Orchestrate technical work across DevOps, developers, and architects, removing blockers and ensuring a steady delivery cadence. • Act as a senior technical liaison with engineering, Cloud, security, architecture, and C-level stakeholders, translating technical trade-offs into business impact. • Define and evolve the strategy for golden paths, Software Templates, TechDocs, and Backstage Scaffolder, ensuring scale, reuse, and developer experience (DevEx). • Establish the observability strategy, SLOs, DORA metrics, and platform metrics (adoption, internal NPS, lead time, change failure rate) to demonstrate value and guide prioritization. • Lead the adoption of DevOps, GitOps, and Platform Engineering as the standard operating model, supporting clients' technical maturity. • Mentor and develop engineers on the team, raising the collective technical level through code reviews, design reviews, pair programming, and learning rituals. • Conduct technical discovery and produce ADRs, ensuring traceability of decisions and alignment with stakeholders. • Address technical, compliance, and operational-continuity risks, acting proactively in transition and modernization scenarios. • Represent the technical practice in internal forums and with clients, contributing to the evolution of the offering, delivery standards, and team enablement.
Job Requirements
- Experience technically leading Platform Engineering or IDP initiatives, ideally with Backstage (Scaffolder, Software Catalog, TechDocs, custom plugins, and integrations).
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages (TypeScript/Node.js strongly preferred due to the Backstage ecosystem; Python, Go, Java, or C# are also valued for templates).
- Strong knowledge of software architecture and distributed systems, with experience designing resilient solutions for high-criticality environments.
- Experience in cloud environments (AWS or Azure), including landing zone models, security, networking, and cost management.
- Proficiency in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS), including migration scenarios from legacy environments.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) with a focus on governance, reusable modules, scalability, and patterns for multiple teams.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and end-to-end automation of the delivery lifecycle.
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, ELK, or equivalents).
- Understanding of platform security (IAM, secrets management).
Benefits
- We value continuous growth for Zuppers, encouraging each person to pursue paths that drive their professional development.
