Job Description

AI Engineer

Trtl

Role Description We are looking for a talented AI Engineer to own and extend Trtl’s growing ecosystem of AI tools, agentic workflows, and integrations. This is a builder role — you will spend most of your time writing code and shipping solutions that make a measurable difference to how the business operates. You will work directly with the COO and department leads across marketing, operations, customer experience, and finance. They will bring you real problems. You will turn them into autonomous, production-grade systems. The ambition is not incremental. We want agentic systems adjusting Amazon advertising bids in real time, autonomous workflows surfacing customer intelligence, and AI-driven operations that free our team to focus on higher-value decisions. If you know what AI-native e-commerce looks like at its best — and want to build that — this role is for you. What You Will Do - Build & Own AI-Powered Tools - Own the Stack: Take ownership of Trtl’s existing suite of AI tools and agentic workflows. Maintain, improve, and extend them as the business evolves. - Ship New Solutions: Design and build new AI-powered tools end-to-end — from scoping the problem through to deployment and iteration. Production tools, not prototypes. - Integrate AI Models: Work primarily with the Anthropic API and Claude to power tools handling content analysis, classification, summarisation, generation, and decision-making. - Agentic Systems: Build and maintain agentic workflows where AI systems take actions, use tools, and operate semi-autonomously — including commercial functions such as automated bid management, performance monitoring, and operational reporting. - Software Development - Write Production Code: Clean, maintainable, well-documented code that colleagues rely on day to day. - APIs & Integrations: Build and consume APIs, connect to e-commerce platforms, marketing tools, CRMs, and communication tools. Data must flow reliably. - Infrastructure: Deploy and manage tools in cloud environments with proper scheduling, monitoring, error handling, and alerting. - Documentation: Document how systems work, how to run them, and how to troubleshoot them — clearly enough that someone else can pick it up. - Collaboration - Work closely with the COO to understand commercial priorities and translate them into a build roadmap. - Run regular structured conversations with department leads to surface friction and identify automation opportunities. - Ship fast, gather feedback, and improve. Practical utility over technical perfection. - Communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues — in plain English, not jargon. Qualifications - 3+ years of professional software development experience, with production code in your portfolio. - Hands-on experience building agentic AI systems — not just using AI tools, but building autonomous workflows that operate in production. - Strong working knowledge of LLMs in production — prompt engineering, tool use, structured outputs, agentic patterns. - Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) and modern agentic frameworks. - APIs and integrations — you are comfortable building against third-party APIs and making data move reliably between systems. - Excellent English — written and spoken. You will communicate daily with a UK-based leadership team. - Self-directed — you manage your own time, set your own priorities, and push projects forward without waiting to be told what to do next. Nice to Have - Experience with e-commerce platforms — Amazon Seller/Vendor Central, Shopify, TikTok Shop. - Experience with Amazon Advertising API or similar programmatic advertising systems. - Cloud deployment experience, particularly AWS. - Workflow automation tools — n8n, Make, Zapier or similar. - Commercial experience shipping MCP servers or agent harnesses in production. Benefits - $2,500 – $4,000 USD/month depending on experience. - Fully remote, flexible working. - Paid onboarding trip to Glasgow, Scotland. - Genuine autonomy — real ownership of the AI stack at a growing brand. - Direct access to and collaboration with the COO. - The chance to build something that actually matters to how the business operates. Contract & Payment We use an Employer of Record (EOR) provider — Deel or similar — to handle your contract, local compliance, and payment. You will receive a compliant employment contract in your country, paid in USD on a reliable monthly schedule. No invoicing, no chasing.
