Job Description
Principal Civil Engineer
AECOM
• Lead multidisciplinary design teams for tailings projects, focusing on operational integration. • Liaise with operations, project managers, and client representatives to gather and incorporate operational input • Direct and facilitate comprehensive design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering workshops to drive technical excellence and project value. • Manage designs to comply with regulatory standards, client specifications, AECOM quality requirements, and industry best practice guidelines. • Manage project budgets, schedules, and delivery. • Cultivate and sustain robust client and stakeholder relationships, serving as a trusted advisor for design-related matters. • Build and maintain strong relationships within the project team • Oversee planning, design, and support construction phases as required. • Mentor engineers and support technical development within the team. • Prepare and present technical documentation, reports, and design packages. • Support bid preparation and proposal development for new projects. • Support the project manager and project controls team by inspiring and motivating the design leads to recognize the value and complete all required earned value management practices. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary design managers in developing design solutions for TSFs, underflow sand embankments, cyclone stations, tailings pipelines, seepage control systems, and water management infrastructure. • Champion a culture of health, safety, and environmental excellence across all project phases, integrate risk management practices into design and construction. • Navigate and resolve conflicts within the project team and with clients, demonstrating professionalism, diplomacy, and the ability to stand firm on technical and contractual requirements while maintaining positive relationships. • Contribute to financial management, including preparation and negotiation of contracts, project budgets, schedules, and change management to deliver on time and within scope. • Review and contribute to earned value management (EVM) reports and provide direction to design leads, enabling informed decision-making and continuous performance improvement. • Mentor and develop engineering leads, provide technical guidance, career development support, and foster a culture of innovation, quality, and accountability within the team.
Job Requirements
- BA/BS and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership
- MA/MS Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Emphasis 15 years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) License

Role Description Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer with PE license for a REMOTE WORK position. Preference will be given to candidates who possess 7+ years of transmission line engineering experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Visually identify, inspect, and record equipment and different construction situations in the field, including rights-of-way. - Apply National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards, Client Standards, Federal, State or Local Municipal Guidelines, and/or other applicable guidelines to complete Transmission engineering designs. - Design transmission lines in voltage ranges from 69kV to 765kV. - Analyze field collected data (including imagery and LiDAR) and accurately update applicable software packages for successful design implementation. - Perform structural analysis and design of monopole, lattice, framed, and guyed transmission structures. - Complete conductor selection studies, grounding, shielding, and induction studies. - Support foundation designs. - Detail and specify transmission pole and line components and equipment. - Utilize PLS-CADD to complete transmission structure and line design, sag analysis, and profile drawings. - Communicate with others, including co-workers and clients, to agree on the best solution for engineering design. - Accountable for work assigned and responsible for completing work on project schedule and within project budget while regularly communicating status with management team. - Frequently communicate with Client(s) on engineering design to best determine the most cost-effective solution for their project. - Provide timely and detailed documentation and support to Orbital accounting functions for ensuring projects are on budget and appropriately accounted. - Transcribe notes, use measuring devices to identify, inspect, and record the data in an organized manner. - Endure frequent driving, standing, walking (numerous miles a day), navigating (on foot or in a vehicle), and balancing objects which may weigh up to 20 pounds in congested and/or complex terrain. - Work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial areas as needed. - Primarily office-based work but fieldwork may be needed throughout the engineering design process. - Willing to travel overnight or for extended periods of time, based on project assignment. - Attend meetings at clients’ sites and regularly interact with the general public, including landowners and operators. - Occasionally enter energized extra-high voltage substations up to 765kV and coordinate with appropriate utility personnel throughout fielding activities within this location. Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 7+ years of experience in transmission line design. - Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). - Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, Sag10, PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER. - Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics. - Capable of leading/executing a project from inception to completion. - Organized person who can keep data organized from start to finish on a project. - Ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and effectively communicate project statuses. - Computer proficiency including general Microsoft Office products, design, and business enterprise software. - Effective written and oral communication at all levels within an organizational structure. - Dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance. - Ability to pass a fit for duty test. - Ability to work from home and an office setting, as required.
