Job Description

Onform Finance - Client-Facing Financial Controller

Jobrack

Client-Facing Financial Controller · Full-time · Fully remote · £4,000–£5,000 GBP/month Hey! I'm Henry, and I started OnForm Finance with my wife to help ambitious founder-led companies get the financial backbone they need to grow with confidence. Our clients span ecommerce, tech and beyond, and what they have in common is a founder who cares about the numbers and wants a finance partner who can keep up. We provide outsourced finance services to businesses doing up to £20M in revenue: day-to-day bookkeeping, management accounting, financial control and fractional CFO support. We run a tight, technically rigorous finance function so our clients can make confident decisions on current, reliable numbers. Our team is made up of experienced finance professionals based across the UK, Europe and Asia. We're small, sharp and hands-on, and we're now investing seriously in technology to work faster, smarter and with fewer of the traditional barriers that slow most firms down. If you like rolling up your sleeves, working at pace, and making a real impact for clients, you'll fit right in. We're looking for a Client-Facing Financial Controller to own the day-to-day finance function for a portfolio of ambitious founder-led ecommerce companies and thrive on the intensity of that work. This is a hands-on delivery role, not an oversight role. You'll be the go-to finance lead for several ecommerce clients at once, context-switching between them daily, keeping their numbers clean and current, and surfacing the insights that help founders make smart decisions. You won't be managing from 30,000 feet. You'll be in the books, in the reconciliations, in the Shopify/A2X/Xero stack, and on calls with founders solving real operational problems. Our standard: every client is closed within 10 working days, with full balance sheet reconciliations signed off. This is the foundation of everything else we do, and it's non-negotiable. You need to be technically strong enough to deliver this consistently across multiple clients. In this role, you will: - Run end-to-end finance for a portfolio of founder-led ecommerce clients: month-end close, management accounts, cashflow, reporting and ad-hoc analysis - Deliver month-end close within 10 working days for every client, including full balance sheet reconciliations signed off to source - Review day-to-day finance operations across your portfolio and raise the bar on accuracy and timeliness - Oversee supplier payment runs and make sure cash is going out cleanly, on time and properly approved - Maintain granular weekly cashflow forecasts so founders know exactly where they stand - Own multi-channel revenue reconciliation using A2X or Link My Books (Shopify primary, Amazon and other marketplaces where relevant) - Reconcile payment processor payouts (Stripe, Klarna, PayPal, Shopify Payments) including fees, FX, refunds and chargebacks - Handle inventory and COGS accounting: landed cost, stock adjustments, margin analysis, 3PL reconciliations - Lead weekly and monthly client calls: walking founders through their numbers, answering questions on the fly, flagging risks and opportunities - Manage and mentor Finance Managers working on your clients, reviewing their work and raising the bar - Build and refine reporting packs, KPI dashboards and cashflow models that clients actually use - Continuously improve the playbook: better processes, smarter tooling, AI-assisted workflows A typical week: multiple client touchpoints, reviewing finance operations across your portfolio, overseeing supplier payment runs, updating granular weekly cashflows, 3 to 5 reporting packs out the door, a handful of ad-hoc founder questions, and time spent making the machine run smoother for next month. This is a full-time role with flexible hours, but most of our clients work on UK (GMT+1) or New York (GMT-4) time, so expect meaningful overlap with those windows.

Job Requirements

  • To excel in this role, you need:
  • ✅ Strong technical accounting: you can run a clean close, own balance sheet reconciliations end to end, and reconcile back to source in every account
  • ✅ Proven track record of closing books within tight timelines (ideally 10 working days or better) across multiple entities
  • ✅ ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent qualification
  • ✅ 3+ years owning end-to-end finance for multiple clients or business units simultaneously, so you thrive on context-switching, not just depth
  • ✅ Hands-on ecommerce accounting experience: Shopify (and ideally Amazon), A2X or Link My Books, multi-channel revenue recognition, COGS
  • ✅ Proven ability to reconcile payment processors (Stripe, Klarna, PayPal, Shopify Payments) including fees, FX and chargebacks
  • ✅ Advanced Xero: clean setup of tracking categories, bank rules, reporting layouts and consolidations
  • ✅ Strong Excel or Google Sheets. You can build a model, not just read one
  • ✅ Confident on client calls. You can walk a non-finance founder through their numbers and earn their trust
  • Brownie points for:
  • ⭐ Experience at a multi-client accounting firm or fractional CFO practice (so you already know the pace)
  • ⭐ Inventory-heavy ecommerce: 3PL reconciliations, landed cost, stock counts, multi-warehouse
  • ⭐ Familiarity with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) to speed up day-to-day work
  • ⭐ Past experience mentoring or managing junior finance team members
  • The ideal person is detail-obsessed but fast, calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoys the rhythm of juggling multiple clients. You get energy from clearing a messy inbox on Monday and having every client up to date by Friday. You communicate proactively, ask good questions, and don't let things slip.
  • Important: this role is intense. You'll be owning real financial operations for multiple clients at once, with real deadlines and a 10-working-day close standard. If you've struggled with that workload before, or are looking for a quieter technical or advisory role, this probably isn't the right fit.
