• Accurately assign and appropriately sequence ICD-10 and CPT codes and all applicable modifiers • Contact clients as appropriate when documentation in the medical record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes • Monitor regulatory and payer changes as they apply to diagnostic and procedure coding • Research and resolve coding related system edits, payer rejections and insurance denials • Identify system edit, payer rejection, and insurance denial trends for client policy and procedure improvement • Maintain up to date knowledge of the current changes of coding practices by continuing education and reading resource material • Other innovative and progressive duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of experience in medical coding for OR/procedures
- Nationally recognized coding credential including, but not limited to CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA or RHIT through AHIMA/AAPC
- Understanding of CPT, HCPCS, CDT, and ICD-10 codes as well as medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical business and revenue cycle operations
- Functioning knowledge of Office Applications (Word, Excel, Email etc.)
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members, as well as supervisors, managers, clients, staff, and providers
- Ability to multi-task independently and/or with a team while maintaining respect and professionalism
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple responsibilities in a highly organized, efficient, and effective manner

About the Opportunity The EDI Enrollment Specialist manages and maintains Electronic Data Interchange (EDI 837), Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA 835), and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) enrollments. In this role, you will also develop and maintain documentation for enrollment processes across all Ensign Skilled Nursing Facilities and Assisted Living Facilities, supporting operations in multiple markets. Specific Duties include, but are not limited to: - Enroll new and existing clients in EDI and ERA programs (837, 835, DDE and EFT) to support claim submission, paperless insurance payments, and electronic fund transfers to facility operating accounts. - Follow up to confirm EDI, ERA, and EFT setups are completed and document outcomes appropriately. - Collaborate with the Accounts Receivable (AR) team to troubleshoot EDI, EFT, and ERA enrollment issues at the facility level. - Partner with the EDI Lead and key stakeholders to map data, standardize processes, and expand the database of recognized insurance payers. - Complete EDI, EFT, and ERA enrollment applications through claims systems or payer portals, as appropriate. - Work with the AR team to ensure portal enrollments are completed when required. - Monitor and follow up on EDI, EFT, and ERA enrollments and provide status updates to relevant stakeholders. - Ensure carriers are properly set up for EFT and ERA processing. - Identify enrollment issues and escalate as needed to ensure timely resolution. - Collaborate with the EDI Lead to review, streamline, and improve workflows and processes. - Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve provider enrollment issues, including claim denials related to enrollment. - Provide subject matter support and conduct training for AR staff as needed. - Collect, organize, and maintain enrollment documentation as part of the onboarding process. - Assist in managing information flow between facilities and payers. - Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Role Description The HIM Outpatient Coder 2 is responsible for coding and abstracting outpatient medical records, including outpatient surgeries, GI procedures, and cardiac catheterizations. The Coder 2 reviews the clinical documentation contained in the patient health record to accurately assign and sequence ICD-9 and CPT codes for use in reimbursement and data collection. Able to transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS. Responsibilities - Codes outpatient surgeries, including GI procedures and cardiac catheterization procedures using ICD-9 or CPT codes as appropriate. - Maintains a yearly average accuracy rate of 94% during internal and/or external coding audits. - Verifies patient information to identify any discrepancies and ensures that all codes and any other abstracted information is applied to the appropriate patient's encounter. - Serves as a quality reviewer while reviewing the record for coding purposes, identifying any documents not belonging to the patient or the correct patient's encounter. - Ensures accuracy when using the appropriate modifiers while coding outpatient encounters. - Assesses documentation and queries the physician for additional information when indicated to clarify a diagnosis, symptom, or any reason for services provided. - Ensures all codes reflect the care rendered to the patient, ensuring patient safety, accuracy of data retrieval, and providing the organization with accurate reimbursement for the care provided. - Evaluates to determine that data documented substantiates the diagnosis and treatment and is internally consistent as required by accreditation standards. - Recognizes and reports unusual circumstances and/or information with possible risk factors to the Coding Associate Administrator or the Coding Director. - Meets continuing education requirements established by AHIMA and/or AAPC to maintain appropriate certification and competency in job skills and knowledge. - Meets productivity standards according to AHIMA Guidelines depending on outpatient record type and is actively involved in all ICD-10-CM/PCS education sessions provided by Jackson Health Systems. - Shows competency according to education received. Qualifications - Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. - At least three years of prior outpatient coding in an inpatient hospital is highly preferred.
