Director, Patient Financial Counseling

Job Description: Role Summary: This role works under the direct supervision of the VP, Revenue Cycle Operations and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and staff across multiple Patient Financial Counseling (PFC) Teams. Duties include development of a central (remote) PFC Team; direct leadership of both the central team and practice-based PFC Teams; creating and implementing new work processes to include policies, procedures, performance metrics, and streamlined workflows; running daily and weekly reports, performing team audits, and providing ongoing training of the team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for reporting findings to executive leadership. Responsibilities: - Develop and implement a standard solution for remote Financial Counseling, including, defining roles and responsibilities, writing job descriptions, creating Policies and Procedures. - Develop a performance standard for all PFCs and establish a QA program to ensure compliance with the standard. - Oversee multiple teams providing financial counseling services. This includes both the Central PFC Team and practice-based teams. - Conduct staffing analysis and recommendations to internal and practice leadership to help manage operational efficiencies and cost. - Develop performance metrics for all Financial Counselors, including setting goals and goal achievement measurements. - Assess workflow and develop strategies to increase team productivity and efficiency. - Review monthly benchmarks for staff and prepare reports for executive audiences. - Work with local teams and to ensure adequate coverage for Financial Counseling and utilize the Central PFC Team as needed to cover employee absences and holidays. - Manage relationships with vendors and hold them accountable for delivering standard services across all member practices. - Review & approve employee time for semi-monthly payroll; monitor overtime utilization. - Perform administrative functions such as interviews, job performance, quarterly performance reviews and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals as required. - Review and update practice-level policies and procedures, as needed. - Ensure best practice revenue cycle solutions are consistently maintained. - Travel to member practices observing current processes and recommend improvements to optimize local operations. - Additional responsibilities may be assigned to help drive our mission of improving the lives of everyone living with cancer. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent healthcare related experience required. - 7-10 years experience in revenue cycle operations, patient financial counseling, or healthcare financial services. - Minimum of five years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting; preferably with Oncology/Hematology knowledge. - Demonstrated experience managing or developing centralized teams (remote or hybrid models strongly preferred) - Experience implementing systems and processes that support organizational growth while maintaining quality and compliance standards. Essential Competencies: - Attendance is an essential job function - Knowledge of insurance coverage guidelines, authorization workflows and Financial Counseling operations - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Ability to apply good judgment - Ability to meet deadlines - Knowledge of clinic office procedures, medical practice and medical terminology - Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and policies and procedures - Ability to successfully organize, delegate, and supervise - Ability to recognize, evaluate and solve problems - Ability to successfully plan, implement and manage multiple projects simultaneously - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Strong knowledge of Windows-based software applications.
