POSITION PURPOSE The Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely day-to-day operations of the financial accounting function, internal controls and processes, account reconciliations and accurate financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Coach, train, provide management support and guidance to direct report(s) on deliverables and accounting strategies. - Fosters a collaborative, highly functioning team with growth goals for the accounting function and individual development. - Develop a team skilled in accounting practice and curious to understand the business, the business’ needs and be able to connect the dots to drive efficiency while delivering quality service. - Lead and manage the timely and efficient completion of annual external audits. - Ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. - Oversee the monthly and yearly financial close schedule for the GL Team. - Review and approve monthly journal entries and reconciliations prepared by the GL team. - Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts. - Oversee travel and expense reimbursement process, including an annual review and recommend updates to the T&E Policy. - Manage fixed asset accounting. - Manage the global VAT tax reporting and compliance requirements. - Collaborate with HR to ensure accuracy of financial information related to headcount and payroll. - Ensure accurate reporting of unrelated business income and associated tax. - Manage relationship with the Internal Revenue Service and annual Form 990 filings. - Manage revenue recognition process for member dues, events and sponsorship/other revenue. - Develop, measure and track accounting performance metrics. - Partner with departments and associates throughout the organization to resolve issues and answer questions related to financial statements and financial processes. - Work with the CFO and Head of Finance on additional duties and projects as assigned. - Identify the impact of GAAP accounting pronouncement changes and manage compliance and reporting requirements. EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION - College Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience. - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification and/or MBA preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours as needed to accommodate members and team members in multiple time zones. - Willingness and ability to travel, domestically and internationally, without restrictions, approximately 5-10% per year.
