Job Description
Senior Designer Technologist, Design Systems
Instacart
• Own and improve core system infrastructure including repositories, publishing workflows, and component playgrounds/environments (e.g., Storybook or equivalent) • Evolve token workflows (semantic and primitive), theming strategies, and reliable distribution of tokens into product codebases • Reduce system drift by strengthening design-to-code feedback loops, improving contribution workflows, and embedding guardrails where work happens • Contribute to component implementations with an emphasis on maintainable patterns, scalable architecture, accessibility defaults, and cross-platform consistency • Build internal tools that enable faster, more consistent delivery: Figma plugins/scripts, generators/scaffolding for system-aligned components, and PR/CI checks, lint rules, and automated quality gates • Model system guidance in structured, reusable formats (rules, constraints, mappings, examples) to power checks, in-tool guidance, and automation • Instrument and iterate: measure adoption and quality, identify recurring sources of rework, and evolve tooling and standards based on real-world usage • Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate audits, migrations, and repetitive tasks (e.g., script generation, change summaries, automated fixes) with strong review, security, and quality practices
Job Requirements
- 6+ years of experience across product design and/or front-end engineering
- Portfolio demonstrating design systems mastery (components, patterns, tokens, governance) and cross-platform consistency; portfolio link required
- Advanced proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and a modern front-end framework (React or similar)
- Proven experience delivering internal tools (e.g., Figma plugins, scripts, CLIs, CI automations)
- Fluency in Figma at a systems level: component architecture, variants/props strategy, naming conventions, library structure, and publishing/versioning
- Strong understanding of design tokens (semantic vs. primitive)
- Demonstrated ability to reason about component UX—including anatomy, states, edge cases, responsive behavior, motion—and to establish accessibility defaults
- Hands-on experience working in shared component codebases/monorepos with multi-team contribution models
- Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development or design workflows to reduce toil and accelerate delivery with appropriate judgment, review, and security considerations
- Experience driving system adoption through metrics, deprecation/migration programs, and cross-functional enablement
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

About Us We're a portfolio of fast-growing wellness and supplement brands built on quality, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve. Our brands carry products ranging from botanical supplements to creatine gummies, each with its own distinct voice and audience. We move quickly, care deeply about craft, and believe great design is central to how we connect with customers. The Role We're looking for a versatile, hands-on Graphic Designer to own the visual identity and day-to-day design needs across our brand portfolio. With a full roadmap of product launches, campaigns, and content ahead, we need someone who can jump in, work across mediums, and bring fresh creative energy to the team. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us long-term. Our brands are scaling, our team is tight-knit, and we're investing in people who are invested back. If you're looking for a place to plant roots, build a body of work you're proud of, and have a real hand in shaping how our brands look and feel for years to come — we'd love to meet you. This isn't a role for a specialist who only does one thing well. You'll be designing email graphics one day, cutting a paid social ad the next, and building out a Shopify landing page the day after. If you love variety and can shift gears between brands and formats without losing your edge, you'll thrive here. What You'll Do - Create digital graphics for email campaigns (Klaviyo), social media, and paid ads across multiple brands - Design and build web assets for Shopify, including product page graphics, banners, collection imagery, and landing pages - Design Amazon listing assets — main images, secondary images, infographics, A+ content modules, and Brand Store pages — with an eye for Amazon's specific requirements and best practices - Edit video for paid ads and organic social (Meta, TikTok, YouTube) — cutting UGC, product footage, and motion graphics into scroll-stopping content - Develop and evolve brand identity systems — logos, illustrations, typography, color, and visual language — as brands grow and new ones launch - Adjust and update existing packaging and print templates as needed — resizing, swapping copy, version control across SKUs (no from-scratch packaging design required) - Collaborate with marketing, operations, and outside agencies to turn briefs into polished deliverables - Manage multiple projects and deadlines across brands without dropping the ball
