Role Description We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Data & BI Architect to lead the implementation of a cloud-based data ingestion, transformation, analytics, and business intelligence reporting platform for our Finance team. This project will build a scalable, secure, and automated data ecosystem leveraging services such as AWS Lake Formation, AWS Glue, Amazon S3, Amazon Athena, and Amazon QuickSight, with infrastructure managed via Terraform. The successful contractor will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing a modern financial data platform that enables accurate reporting, analytics, and strategic insights. Key Responsibilities - Design and implement a secure, scalable AWS-based data lake and analytics architecture - Develop automated data ingestion pipelines from financial and operational systems - Build ETL/ELT workflows using AWS Glue and related services - Configure and manage data governance and access controls using AWS Lake Formation - Optimize storage and query performance in Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena - Develop dashboards and financial BI reports in Amazon QuickSight - Apply infrastructure-as-code principles using Terraform - Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across financial datasets - Translate finance team requirements into technical data models and reporting solutions - Collaborate with finance stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and reporting structures - Implement best practices for security, cost optimization, and performance tuning Technical Expertise - Strong hands-on experience with: - Terraform (infrastructure as code) - AWS Lake Formation - AWS Glue (ETL development) - Amazon S3 (data lake design and management) - Amazon Athena (query optimization and performance tuning) - Amazon QuickSight (dashboarding, dataset modelling, row-level security) - Experience designing and implementing data lakes and analytics architectures in AWS - Solid DBA skills (data modelling, indexing, query optimization, schema design) - Strong SQL expertise - Experience with data transformation, validation, and pipeline orchestration - Background in data analysis and statistical analysis Business Intelligence & Analysis - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modelling, pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas) - Experience with BI reporting tools (e.g., QuickSight and other enterprise BI platforms) - Ability to design executive-level dashboards and operational reports - Strong understanding of KPIs, metrics, and performance measurement frameworks Bonus Skills & Experience - Experience integrating or working with the following platforms is highly desirable: - Xero (financial accounting system integration and reporting) - HubSpot (CRM data integration for revenue reporting) - Harvest (time and project cost tracking integration) - Airtable (operational data integration and workflow support) - Experience building ingestion pipelines from SaaS platforms via APIs, webhooks, or third-party connectors is a strong advantage Finance Domain Knowledge (Preferred) - Experience working with financial datasets and reporting environments, including: - Understanding of financial reporting structures, such as revenue, cost of sales, gross margin, and operating expenses - Experience building or supporting financial reporting models (P&L, revenue reporting, cost analysis) - Ability to structure and model financial KPIs and metrics used in executive reporting - Familiarity with budget vs. actual and variance analysis reporting structures - Experience designing data models that support financial reporting hierarchies and time-based analysis (monthly, quarterly, YTD) - Practical exposure to financial system data structures, such as: - General ledger exports - Billing and revenue data - Cost and project accounting data - CRM revenue pipeline data - Experience working with Finance stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into technical datasets and dashboards - Understanding of data accuracy, reconciliation, and auditability requirements in financial reporting environments Qualifications - 8+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud data platforms, or BI solutions - Proven experience delivering end-to-end AWS data solutions - Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills - Excellent stakeholder communication skills - Ability to work independently in a contract role and deliver within tight timelines Deliverables - By the end of the 3-month engagement, the contractor will have: - Implemented a production-ready AWS-based financial data platform - Delivered automated ingestion and transformation pipelines (including SaaS integrations where applicable) - Established governed, secure data access controls - Developed validated financial dashboards and BI reporting for the Finance team - Documented architecture, processes, and operational procedures
