Construction Engineer I
SOLV Energy
• The Construction Engineer I supports four core Construction Engineering functions across SOLV’s EPC operations by providing engineering coordination, technical communication, and documentation rigor. • Warranty Analysis, by gathering data and supporting engineering review of potential design or installation issues. • Emerging Technologies Implementation, by assisting with GPS-enabled pile driving, drone-based survey workflows, and new construction tools. • Construction Engineering Support During Operations, by coordinating RFIs, design updates, and field engineering clarifications. • Pile Load Testing Support During Initial Design, by assisting with planning, scheduling, documentation, and engineering communication for pre-construction pile testing programs. • Assist in coordinating engineering input for remediation plans and communicating required actions to project teams and clients.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Studies, or a closely related technical field (preferred).
- 0–3 years of relevant experience, with the ability to perform tasks with guidance and grow toward independent execution (aligned with Engineer I expectations).
- Engineer ‑ in ‑ Training (EIT) certification preferred or willingness to pursue certification.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including civil, structural, electrical, and geotechnical plans.
- Foundational understanding of construction processes, testing practices (such as pile load testing), and engineering documentation.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, disciplined documentation across multiple engineering workflows.
- Problem ‑ solving mindset with the ability to identify inconsistencies, collect supporting information, and escalate engineering concerns appropriately.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining design updates, gathering field information, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and field teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word; exposure to CAD, GIS, drone ‑ capture platforms, GPS machine ‑ control datasets, or similar tools preferred.
- Willingness to learn and support emerging construction technologies, including drone ‑ based surveys, GPS ‑ enabled equipment, and digital field data systems.
- Ability to conduct field work, including walking construction sites, collecting data, observing installation methods, and participating in testing activities.
- Sense of urgency and ownership, able to support fast ‑ paced construction environments and respond quickly to engineering information needs.
- Team ‑ oriented, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, warranty, and technology ‑ focused groups.

This Opportunity In this role you would be assisting in developing design document for utility and infrastructure related projects in the private/public sectors. Tasks may include, utility research, concept development, water system design, sanitary sewer system design, duct bank design, cost estimates, project specifications as they related to civil engineering improvements. Work with a team to generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Deliver work products meeting acceptable industry and client standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact - Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects. - Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the project site, surveys, plan sets, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction. - Assist with the development of utility designs in preparation of construction documents related to infrastructure projects and ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits as well as client-driven basis of design. - Perform field visits to verify characteristics of a site and provide basic technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues. Use aerial images to verify and confirm locations of survey features, record drawings, and map data to supplement data received. - Regularly coordinate and communicate with project teams and supervisor. Attend and participate in project team meetings. - Assist with private utility coordination and development of meeting memorandums and figures. - Utilize computer-aided design (CADD) software to develop design plans. Use of Bentley, Autodesk, and ArcGIS software is expected. - Perform utility conflict reviews to determine potential utility impacts and develop potential solutions to eliminate the conflicts. - Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, geotechnical, hydraulics, traffic, and roadway, etc. - Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with coworkers, clients, and other stakeholders - Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction. - Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. - Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline. - Excellent research skills with analytical mindset. - Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses. - Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. - Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. - Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. - Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. - Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. - Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. - Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
