WSP is currently initiating a search for an enthusiastic and motivated Civil Utilities Engineer for our Herndon, VA office. This Opportunity In this role you would be assisting in developing design document for utility and infrastructure related projects in the private/public sectors. Tasks may include, utility research, concept development, water system design, sanitary sewer system design, duct bank design, cost estimates, project specifications as they related to civil engineering improvements. Work with a team to generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Deliver work products meeting acceptable industry and client standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact - Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects. - Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the project site, surveys, plan sets, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction. - Assist with the development of utility designs in preparation of construction documents related to infrastructure projects and ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits as well as client-driven basis of design. - Perform field visits to verify characteristics of a site and provide basic technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues. Use aerial images to verify and confirm locations of survey features, record drawings, and map data to supplement data received. - Regularly coordinate and communicate with project teams and supervisor. Attend and participate in project team meetings. - Assist with private utility coordination and development of meeting memorandums and figures. - Utilize computer-aided design (CADD) software to develop design plans. Use of Bentley, Autodesk, and ArcGIS software is expected. - Perform utility conflict reviews to determine potential utility impacts and develop potential solutions to eliminate the conflicts. - Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, geotechnical, hydraulics, traffic, and roadway, etc. - Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with coworkers, clients, and other stakeholders - Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction. - Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. - Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline. - Excellent research skills with analytical mindset. - Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses. - Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. - Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. - Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. - Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. - Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. - Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. - Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications: - PE or Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certification. - Experience designing dry utilities (medium-voltage electrical and fiber/telecom), including duct bank/conduit routing and layout; utility coordination a plus. - Data Center design experience a plus.   - Prior internship related to civil engineering and/or past experience working with utilities. - Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, Power GEOPAK, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, WaterGEM, SWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS). - A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations (i.e. AWWA, VWEA, ASHE, VLWA, SAME).  #LI-MF1

• Support engineering projects working directly with engineers, project managers, and design team members • Deliver high quality drafting of engineering drawings and exhibits • Assist with maintaining and further developing drafting standards • Draft plans for civil and related discipline design projects utilizing AutoDesk Civil 3D • Perform site grading analysis and calculations utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D • Work independently and collaboratively to complete project timelines and requirements • Assist civil engineers with site design, utility design, grading, and overall plan production • Manages deadlines and prioritizes assignments
