This individual will serve as the company’s go to authority on welding technologies, procedures, and compliance — ensuring our teams execute work to the highest industry standards. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Leadership & Expertise Serve as the company’s welding subject matter expert (SME), providing guidance on welding processes, metallurgy, materials selection, and industry best practices. Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications. Lead technical troubleshooting and root-cause investigations on welding-related issues. Operational Management Oversee day-to-day welding operations across field service, shop fabrication, and repair activities. Ensure all welding work meets company, client, and regulatory requirements. Manage welding personnel including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance oversight. Coordinate with production, QA/QC, engineering, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution of work. Quality, Safety & Compliance Uphold strict adherence to codes and standards such as ASME, API, AWS, and DNV. Partner with QA/QC to enforce inspection protocols, NDE requirements, and documentation control. Drive a strong safety culture aligned with company HSE expectations and regulatory requirements. Continuous Improvement Evaluate new welding technologies, equipment, and processes for operational enhancements. Implement training programs to improve welder skill sets and certification levels. Identify opportunities to improve quality, reduce cost, and increase productivity across welding operations. ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT This position reports to the Director of Operations with a responsibility to all employees. QualificationsRequired 7+ years of progressive welding experience within the oil & gas, energy, fabrication, or heavy industrial sector. Demonstrated leadership experience managing welders, inspectors, or fabrication teams. Extensive knowledge of multiple welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, etc.). Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications. Strong understanding of ASME, AWS, and API codes. Preferred Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI). Associate or bachelor’s degree in welding engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. Experience with NDE techniques and inspection requirements. Prior experience in a service based oil & gas environment. BEHAVIORAL PROFILE Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
