A bit about the role To be an active participant of the Committee, supporting the Chair and British Rowing to achieve its terms of reference and goals. Your Responsibilities will be: - Be prepared for all meetings, reading papers in advance, raising issues in advance. - Actively contribute to all meetings using your skills, experience, and expertise. - Support the Chair in the smooth running of the Committee. - Contribute to agenda planning by raising ideas and thoughts with the Chair. - Act as a conduit between the sport and the committee, raising issues and communicating decisions and actions. - Contribute as required to task and finish groups. - Be responsible for your own personal development and training to stay effective and relevant in performing the role. - Participate in the periodic evaluation of Chair and Committee effectiveness. A bit about you Person Specification - Be able to build effective relationships with fellow Committee members, Board, and the executive, ensuring all are aligned to the Committee’s common purpose. - Be able to constructively challenge, act as a “critical friend”. - Be open, honest, and respectful in all communications. - Apply critical thinking and analysis to evaluate a complex range of viewpoints and information and focus on the key issues / strategic priorities / outcomes. - Bring long term thinking and planning to the Committee, anticipating future challenges and opportunities. - Contribute insights using your skills, experience, and expertise. - Be able to exercise independent judgement beyond personal views or agenda. - Have an understanding of the established principles of current corporate governance and the need for frameworks for assurance and accountability. - Have a clear understanding of, and the ability to empathise with volunteers who make an important contribution to the running of the sport. - Keep up to date with all the required technical knowledge needed for the role. - Maintain a knowledge of the sport and broader sector wide issues to stay relevant. - A commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion. Essential: - An ability to develop and maintain effective networks within the sport - Knowledge of rowing and experience as an athlete, coach, cox, event or club official - An ability to communicate effectively with stakeholder groups - A desire to support the development of the sport - A strong, highly collaborative team player with a positive mindset. - Ability to commit to four formal and four informal meetings per year in addition to supporting specific work strands and task-and-finish groups. Desirable: Between the general members it is desirable to have a variety of skills and experience, therefore the following list is not exhaustive: - Have experience in a variety of different elements of the sport, either established or emerging (ie adaptive, coastal, racing) - Represent diversity in relation to experience of regions, broader experience and time in the sport - Bring significant experience from beyond rowing, ie emerging technology, education, communications, event management risk management, financial management etc. - Experience in the broader sports sector, grant funded and/or volunteer led organisations - Experience serving on a Committee Mandatory Requirements What we offer Additional Information Please submit a CV and cover letter explaining your suitability, outlining your reasons for applying, and detailing what you can bring to the role.
