POSITION SUMMARY The Research Assistant provides an opportunity for intern-level introductory research work by participating closely with DNWest staff in order to improve technical skills while being given a developmental opportunity in an industrial setting. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reviews and researches project background and status with Research Program staff. Participates in all phases of research including planning, preparation, calibration, application, evaluation, data analysis, and maintenance. Makes novel observations. Collects and interprets data. Draws sound scientific conclusions based on data analyses. The results of these studies, and the conclusion generated, will impact research plans and advancement decisions on experimental materials. Presents project reviews before colleagues and peers. Participates in all aspects of offering samples for research and procurements. May visit DNWest’s high profile academic and commercial biotech partner labs and learns new techniques and methods of tissue preservation and processing. QUALIFICATIONS

• Support CAI’s innovation in natural language applications in support of our mission to improve educational outcomes for our students and educators • This includes automated scoring in large scale assessment programs (for writing, speech and other areas of educational measurement), detection of crisis alert content in student writing and the use of ML for feedback in student writing • Support CAI’s emerging product portfolio for products that employ state of the art machine learning methods that provide solutions to real world problems in K-12, higher education and other related domains • Contributes to R&D agenda and sets priorities for the automated scoring team • Drive and provide mentorship to the data scientists in our team • Design and implement studies to obtain, score, model, and examine results for any of CAI’s current natural language applications, including automated scoring, crisis alert detection, and feedback • Pursue applied research to actively publish and represent CAI’s leadership in this area • Present at conferences and technical advisory committee meetings

• Responsible for extending Circle's in-house blockchain systems infrastructure to support the tokenization of the world; • Analyzing requirements, procedures, and problems to improve existing systems and modifying systems; • Building and owning scalable microservices that are responsible for reliable and secure APIs that transfer value and assets across all blockchain protocols as well as traditional banking protocols; • Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to design, test, and shape Circle features, including developing and documenting system design procedures, testing procedures, and quality standards; • Troubleshooting program and system malfunctions to restore normal functioning; • Building publicly accessible APIs that make it simple for developers to integrate with complex payment systems; • Integrating Platform Services with leading banks and financial technologies; • Consulting with management to ensure agreement on system principles; • Writing the infrastructure to deliver great payment experiences, including data sources (SQL or NoSQL), messaging systems and APIs; • Other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will: - Lead original, high-signal research that combines quantitative data, qualitative insights, and real-world stories from hundreds of engineering organizations. - Develop and evolve frameworks, models, and measurement approaches that become reference points for CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and industry analysts. - Produce flagship reports and essays that move the conversation forward and shape how leaders talk about developer productivity and AI. You’ll operate as a top-of-ladder IC: setting direction for major research themes, partnering closely with product, marketing, and sales, and representing DX and Atlassian in the broader industry. Responsibilities What you’ll ship: - Two “small ships” per month – quick, high-signal pieces that capture one strong insight or idea. For example: - An insight or trend we’re seeing in the data (e.g., how AI is changing specific workflows). - Key takeaways from a panel, webinar, or interview with senior engineering leaders. - A framework or mental model for how to think about a relevant problem (e.g., measuring developer productivity in hybrid teams). - One “big ship” per quarter – a flagship piece that combines multiple data points, stories, and perspectives into something that reframes how leaders think about a problem. That might include: - A major AI Impact Report sharing insights and trends from data across hundreds of companies. - Regular updates with commentary to our industry benchmarks. - A deep-dive framework that becomes the default way leaders talk about a complex topic. - A compilation of “small ships” that come together in a cohesive guide on a topic that our audience wants help with or answers to. Qualifications - Deep experience (often 7+ years) in developer productivity, software engineering research, or closely related fields – e.g., engineering leadership, developer experience, socio-technical systems, or software metrics. - Proven track record of publishing high-impact work: industry reports, academic papers, widely read essays, or frameworks that have influenced how organizations operate. - Comfortable operating at the level of CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and Heads of Platform/DevEx – you can earn their trust and withstand their scrutiny. - Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills; you know how to separate signal from noise and avoid misleading conclusions. - Exceptional writer and communicator: you can explain complex ideas in a way that is clear, concise, and actionable for busy leaders. - Opinionated but open-minded: you’re willing to take a stand, but you update your views when the evidence changes. - Low ego, high ownership: you care more about the quality and impact of the work than about credit. Requirements - Experience working inside large engineering organizations or platforms teams. - Prior roles as a Field CTO, Deputy CTO, Principal Engineer, or similar. - Experience collaborating with product and go-to-market teams to turn research into product and narrative. - A network of senior engineering leaders, researchers, and practitioners you can tap for feedback and collaboration.
