Key Responsibilities - Monitor network and infrastructure systems to ensure optimal uptime and performance - Respond to alerts and incidents promptly, performing root cause analysis and resolution - Conduct structured troubleshooting using OSI layer methodologies - Prioritise alerts and distinguish between critical incidents and non-impacting noise - Own incidents end-to-end, minimising unnecessary escalations - Implement preventative solutions to reduce recurring issues and alert fatigue - Maintain accurate documentation including tickets, runbooks, and shift handovers - Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors for issue resolution - Manage ISP and carrier escalations, ensuring SLA adherence

Job Requirements

  • Strong TCP/IP networking fundamentals with experience in VLANs, STP, LACP, and basic routing (OSPF/BGP)
  • Proficiency with Cisco IOS and familiarity with Cisco (Catalyst, Meraki) and Arista switching platforms
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix), SNMP, Syslog, and infrastructure/power systems (APC)
  • Solid troubleshooting skills in live environments, including packet flow analysis and interface diagnostics
  • Experience managing incidents end-to-end, including ISP/carrier escalations and SLA tracking
  • Understanding of WAN technologies (DIA, MPLS, broadband, SD-WAN) and network issue isolation
  • Familiarity with network inventory/IPAM tools (e.g., Nautobot, NetBox) and documentation best practices
  • Basic automation knowledge (Python/APIs) is advantageous

About the Role, Mission or Department Overview The New York Times is looking for a part-time Developer/Analyst to support the research and development of the primary infrastructure for our critical publishing and production operations.
