Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as a Stop Loss Underwriter! About the role In this role you will be responsible for risk-based underwriting of new and/or existing accounts. You’ll be accountable for the achievement of profit, persistency, and growth goals through financial analysis of employer groups. What you will do - Determine level of risk based on established guidelines. - Analyze information on past claim history and other standard criteria. - Determine needed rate level using multiple tools, including a medical evaluation of ongoing large claimant concerns. - Develop and determine appropriate aggregate factors. - Release final rates and factors. - Accountable for profitability and all risk-based decisions. - Block Management: Manage Performance of New and/or Existing Accounts for assigned territories in the following areas: - Target final effective renewal rate increases - Close ratio - Case premium persistency - Billed to manual ratio - Quote turnaround time - Provide competitive feedback on rates/factors and products to management. Recommend improvements in underwriting and marketing strategies. - Participate in underwriting projects and cross training initiatives. - Daily interaction with agents, field staff, marketing reps and other underwriters to maintain consistency and support department workflow. - Build and maintain excellent client, rep, TPA and internal personnel relations.
