Job Description

Research and Training Meteorologist – Bilingual

Lynker

• Collaborate with partners (NOAA, Academia, NMHS, and WMO) to develop training and conduct research on meteorological forecast problems in WMO Regions III and IV. • Develop training materials to transition new forecast tools and techniques. • Produce formal scientific publications • Presenting at Conferences, Symposia, and other Hazardous weather-related Events. • Developing and Administering Forecaster Training in English • Assisting in planning of Remote Training for WMO Region III and IV NMHS. • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are highly desired and a strong ability to work in a collaborative team environment is needed for the position.
  • Masters degree or advanced degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or related area and at least one year experience in operational meteorology or applied research; additional post-graduate education may be substituted for experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of weather forecasting (emphasis on quantitative precipitation forecasting) from short to medium range, and their application to research, hazardous weather diagnosis and prediction, and creation/dissemination of probabilistic hazard information.
  • Excellent programming skills in a Linux/Unix environment, including Python and various web languages.
  • Experience with developing and administering meteorological training material.
  • Experience with meteorological display software, i.e. - ArcGIS, GEMPAK, etc.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods in meteorology and strong analytical skills.

Ministry • Makes regular visits to company worksites (usually weekly) to interact with employees and build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith. • Visits employees or immediate family members wherever care can be expressed and help given: hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites. • May provide confidential pastoral discussions for problem issues of employees and their immediate family members including, but not limited to family matters, divorce, serious illness, care of aging parents, death and grief recovery, parenting, financial situations that may include debt discussions, budgeting, and other life issues related to financial stress, as well as any other personal issues.
