Role Description Join our expanding team in the Warfare Systems Business Group at HII-Mission Technologies! We are seeking a talented mid-to senior-level Data Architect to play a pivotal role in supporting Executive Order projects. This high-impact position focuses on enhancing a centralized data environment (CDE) that delivers auditable financial transaction data, improves transparency and accountability across the Department of War (DoW), and builds a robust common operating picture for senior leadership decision-making. The ideal candidate takes an end-to-end solution approach, maintaining a big-picture perspective to develop comprehensive data strategies, architectures, and designs for data collection, storage, and dissemination. You'll connect business processes to data requirements, evaluate and select authoritative sources from disparate systems, formalize information, and establish unified architectures that enable seamless, auditable data flows across enterprise-scale environments. Essential Job Responsibilities - Designs, models, documents, and governs the logical and conceptual data architectures, relationships, and schema evolutions for complex, enterprise-scale applications in support of tracking and accountability reforms. - Analyzes current and emerging system requirements, then develops comprehensive technical, structural, and organizational specifications to enable auditable, transparent data flows. - Develops and implements end-to-end data architectures, including strategies for data ingestion, integration, storage, processing, quality assurance, and dissemination to support business objectives and mission needs. - Applies big-picture thinking to map and align business processes with data requirements, ensuring holistic solutions that address collection from multiple sources, authoritative source identification, data formalization, and linkage through common, scalable architectures. - Establishes data governance frameworks, including policies for standardization, quality, metadata management, and compliance with DoW regulations to promote consistency and reliability across hybrid environments. - Collaborates with stakeholders to define enterprise data strategies, optimize pipelines (ETL/ELT), and incorporate technologies such as cloud platforms (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government), Big Data tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop), and relational/NoSQL databases for secure, performant solutions. - Designs approaches for automated data labeling, lifecycle management, monitoring, real-time ingestion, and integration of disparate data sources to support auditable and transparent operations. - Evaluates emerging tools and technologies for data management, performs source assessments to determine the "right" authoritative data origins, and resolves integration challenges to maintain data integrity and traceability. - Performs additional duties as assigned or required to advance mission goals. Qualifications - Knowledge of data administration and data standardization policies and standards. - Knowledge of the capabilities and functionality associated with various technologies for organizing and managing information (e.g., databases, bookmarking engines). - Knowledge of the characteristics of physical and virtual data storage media. - Skill in developing data models. - Knowledge of data operations (DataOps) processes and best practices. - Knowledge of how to collect, store, and monitor data. - Skill in designing the best approach and architecture for automated data labeling and data lifecycle. - Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or Java for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis. - Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (conceptual, logical, physical) and tools (e.g., ERwin, Visio). - Demonstrated ability to think holistically about end-to-end data solutions, connect business processes to data architecture, and integrate information from diverse sources into unified frameworks. - Ability to work independently while thriving in collaborative team settings. - Self-motivated initiator with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. Requirements - Must possess and maintain an active Secret clearance at the time of consideration. - Remote-eligible position; must align with Eastern Time Zone core business hours. - Database Architect III: 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience. - Database Architect IV: 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience. Preferred Requirements - Strong understanding of transactional data flows, financial management systems, and auditability requirements in DoW/security cooperation contexts. - Direct experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs and related data integration challenges. - Experience working in DoW enterprise environments with emphasis on centralized data environments, transparency, and accountability reforms. - Experience in SAFe Agile environments, including participation in PI planning, and Scrum/Kanban ceremonies. - Familiarity with cloud-based data services (e.g., Azure Databricks, AWS S3/Glue), Big Data frameworks (e.g., Kafka for streaming), and governance tools for metadata and lineage tracking. - Knowledge of DoW data policies, compliance standards (e.g., RMF), and best practices for multi-source data harmonization and authoritative sourcing. - Advanced analytical skills, including experience in data strategy development, roadmap creation, and cross-functional collaboration to align technical designs with mission/business imperatives. • Design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports used across multiple client engagements • Develop and optimize data models and DAX calculations to support scalable, high‑performance analytics and dashboards • Prepare, transform, and shape data for analytics using SQL, Power BI (Power Query), and Azure‑based data sources • Coordinate and support Power BI dataset refreshes, troubleshoot failures, and resolve performance or data issues • Perform data quality assurance to validate accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness of data prior to analytics and reporting use • Review incoming client data and develop mapping logic and documentation to support analytics‑ready SQL tables and Power BI datasets • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate reporting and business requirements into clear, consumable Power BI dashboards • Support Azure‑based data environments that feed Power BI solutions, including SQL databases, Azure Data Factory pipelines, and SFTP integrations • Enable secure client data ingestion by supporting SFTP access, file transfers, and troubleshooting connectivity and ingestion issues • Work with healthcare data containing PHI, ensuring compliance with security, privacy, and data governance standards throughout the analytics lifecycle • Collaborate with internal team members and consultants to resolve data and reporting issues, prioritize requests, and support multiple concurrent client engagements

• Advise our clients on introducing or expanding cloud- or on-premise-based Big Data architectures • Design requirement analyses and oversee implementation • Take ownership of end-to-end implementation, from data integration to use in analytical models and operationalization • Prepare and analyze large structured and unstructured datasets using scalable cloud infrastructures • Collaborate closely with Data Scientists and Data Engineers to develop analytical models, predictive analyses, and preventive countermeasures • Continuously propose improvements to increase the efficiency of deployed Big Data solutions • Expand existing client relationships, identify new projects, and independently acquire new customers.
