Work at a Glance: Strategic Real Estate Leader and Communicator The National Real Estate Programs Department is one of four departments that make up the National Initiatives Division at NeighborWorks America. The Division is responsible for developing, testing, and managing innovative national strategies and services in support of the approximately 250 local NeighborWorks Organizations located across the country. Areas of focus for the National Real Estate Programs Department include real estate development and asset management, business/portfolio strengthening, and access to capital. The duties of this position are performed under the direct supervision of the Senior Vice President of National Initiatives. Position Summary: The Vice President, National Real Estate Programs, provides strategic leadership for NeighborWorks America’s national real estate development, asset management, and resident services initiatives. The Vice President is responsible for shaping and advancing enterprise‑wide strategies that strengthen sustainable real estate business lines, support high‑performing portfolios, and expand impact across the NeighborWorks Network. Serving as a national thought leader and subject matter expert, the Vice President aligns financial, technical, and programmatic resources to support Network organizations engaged in multifamily and single‑family real estate development and the operation of approximately 175,000 rental units nationwide. The role also includes strategic oversight and partnership with NeighborWorks’ affiliated community development capital corporations to ensure the availability and effectiveness of capital products supporting the Network’s real estate activities. The Vice President leads and develops a team of senior program staff and is accountable for departmental performance, budget planning, and stewardship of significant program and capital resources. Essential Duties/ Responsibilities 1. National Real Estate Strategy & Program Leadership - Direct and develop innovative national programs to advance NeighborWorks America’s strategic outcomes in real estate development and preservation across multifamily, single-family, mixed-use, commercial, and community facility projects. - Identify emerging trends in real estate practice and lead development of national strategies, tools, and resources that foster sustainability, innovation, and the advancement of practices addressing systemic inequities. - Oversee delivery of key programs focused on business model sustainability, portfolio strengthening, and organizational growth across the NeighborWorks Network. 2. Industry Leadership, Thought Leadership & External Engagement - Serve as a trusted subject matter expert and strategic advisor to NeighborWorks senior leadership and Officers, including preparation of analytical materials for budgets, testimony, and high-level presentations. - Oversee and steward national partnerships that advance professional development and thought leadership in real estate, including CHAM® and Strength Matters. - Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including peer institutions, funders, and industry leaders, to elevate NeighborWorks’ real estate efforts, test innovations, and advance best practices. - Represent NeighborWorks real estate initiatives at national conferences, convenings, and stakeholder forums. 3. Organizational Leadership, Governance & Cross‑Division Collaboration - Lead and manage a diverse, high-performing team, providing strategic direction and accountability for successful implementation of national real estate and asset management strategies. - Proactively engage the Real Estate Advisory Committee (Network CEOs) to inform program development through regular meetings and convenings. - Collaborate with the Division SVP and peer VPs to define and align division-wide strategies and goals, including embedding equity considerations into program design and grantmaking. - Deliver executive-level presentations and written analyses for internal and external audiences on programmatic and policy issues. - Support the SVP of National Initiatives and corporate leadership on special initiatives and cross-cutting priorities as needed. 4. Grants, Training & Capacity-Building Programs - Oversee the design and implementation of grant programs that strengthen real estate development practices and portfolios across the Network, in coordination with Operations and Field Operations teams. - Partner with NeighborWorks training staff to develop and deliver national training, peer learning, and capacity-building strategies that support real estate and asset management functions. 5. Asset Management, Data & Portfolio Risk Oversight - Oversee the development, use, and continuous improvement of enterprise data tools supporting portfolio performance and pipeline tracking, including MF Insights, pipeline reporting, and NeighborWorks data collection systems. - Participate in the Organizational Health Tracking System (OHTS) process to assess portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and inform organizational decision-making. 6. Capital Formation & Resident Services Strategy - Serve as NeighborWorks America’s relationship manager with affiliated capital corporations (NeighborWorks Capital Corporation and Community Housing Capital Corporation), including managing the Master Investment Agreement, grant awards, reporting, board engagement, and ongoing communications. - Collaborate with Resource Development and Public Relations to advance capital resource strategies supporting real estate development programs. - Oversee development of national strategies and resources to support resident services in rental properties owned or managed by NeighborWorks organizations. - Advance resident service approaches that address social determinants of health in partnership with financial capability and health-focused teams. 7. Staff Supervision and Development: - Provides senior-level supervision and leadership for a team of program managers and professional staff. Responsible for hiring, performance management, coaching, professional development, and succession planning. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Strategic Engagement will lead and coordinate WECC’s engagement activities, including WECC’s outreach to and engagement with industry and government partners in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role will lead WECC’s marketing and communications (both internal and external, including media), branding, and reputation-building initiatives. The individual in this role will be an established collaborator in the Energy sector and will effectively complement WECC’s technical expertise to promote the reliability and security of the bulk power system in the West. This position will lead a team to develop strategic initiatives and internal coordination that foster relationships with key stakeholder and policy groups, including federal, state, and provincial agencies, regulatory and legislative bodies, consumers, and owners, operators, and users of the bulk power system in the West, while also collaborating effectively to build trust and alignment with NERC and the other regional entities (collectively known as the ERO Enterprise). The Vice President, Strategic Engagement will lead a department that collaborates with all program areas in WECC and will design how WECC presents itself externally. This role will lead initiatives to reinforce WECC’s value to the future of the electric industry. The role will serve as an important external spokesperson for the organization and will work closely with the executive team, ERO Enterprise, and Board of Directors. While WECC’s headquarters are located in Salt Lake City, Utah, this position is remote-eligible for candidates based in the Western Interconnection. An estimated 25-50% travel is expected for this role, though unique business needs may require additional travel on occasion.
