Job Description

Content Writer - Contractor

Helium SEO

Contract Content Writer Helium SEO is looking for a skilled and self-sufficient Contract Content Writer to produce high-quality SEO content for our diverse portfolio of clients. This is a fully remote contract position with consistent, ongoing work for the right candidate. About the Role As a Contract Content Writer at Helium, you'll be responsible for creating compelling, optimized content for client websites across a wide range of industries. You'll work directly from creative briefs and style guides, writing content that serves both search engines and real audiences. This role is built for someone who can hit the ground running, not someone who needs constant oversight once they're up to speed. This position requires 20–25 hours of availability per week, every week. We're looking for one reliable contractor with consistent bandwidth, rather than multiple contractors with unpredictable schedules. What You'll Do - Write new long-form (800–1,000 words) and short-form (250–400 words) content for client websites - Edit and revise drafts based on client feedback as needed - Apply SEO fundamentals, including keyword placement, internal linking, and proper header structure - Use AI writing tools (specifically Claude) to assist in content production and efficiency - Take a brief and execute independently — from research through final draft - Submit completed content by Friday each week (standard deadline for all non-rush deliverables) You Could Be a Great Fit If You: - Have 1+ year of experience in content or blog writing - Have hands-on experience writing content with AI tools (familiarity with Claude or similar LLMs strongly preferred) - Understand SEO basics — keyword usage, internal linking, header hierarchy, etc. You don't need to be an expert, but you should have a working knowledge - Can provide a portfolio that demonstrates a range of different tones, industries, audiences, and content types - Are highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to work independently on your own schedule - Possess strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with LLM-forward content writing — understanding how to structure content for citation and visibility in AI search tools (this is a growing part of what Helium offers, and writers who already get this will ramp up faster) - Willingness to complete a short writing sample as a final step before being brought on — we'll provide a brief, keyword, and style guide - Experience with tools like ClickUp, Slack, Dropbox, or Google Suite - Background in SEO content for B2B or B2C clients About You You understand that no one is perfect, that we all have weak spots, and you want to master the skill of self-improvement regardless of your experience. You are driven to do excellent work and complete every task to the best of your ability. You ask for help when you need it, own up to your mistakes, and take ownership of your work with confidence. Helium SEO is a fast-growing digital agency with clients across industries. We believe culture is the most important thing we must get right — and that starts with the people we bring on, even in a contract capacity.
