Role Description The Telehealth Psychiatrist is responsible for providing court ordered psychiatric evaluations of patients at the Crisis Response Center, in person or via telehealth. While uncommon, the Psychiatrist may be required to testify regarding their evaluation via videoconference at a COT hearing. Qualified candidates will be familiar with A.R.S. Title 36 as it pertains to COE/COT processes and procedures. The Psychiatrist will not direct, coordinate, or provide medical/clinical services to assigned patients within the facility. This provider will be able to perform evaluations as necessary for patients on the Observation or Inpatient Units, depending on the need of the facility. - Complete court ordered psychiatric evaluations (COEs) as needed on the CRC Observation or Inpatient unit. - Evaluations may take place in person or via telemedicine per the Psychiatrist’s availability. - The court ordered psychiatric evaluation will provide a recommendation for or against placing the individual on COT, as well as a diagnosis or diagnoses, assessment, and treatment recommendations. - The evaluation may also include assessments of capacity for consent to treatment, risk assessments, patient education, progress toward treatment goals, and discharge planning including medical, psychological, social, behavioral, and developmental aspects of the consumer’s care, treatment, and services. - Review the health assessments completed by nursing staff. - Obtain a past and current medical history and perform pertinent review of systems, as indicated, according to established guidelines. - Initiate contact with the Primary Care Physicians and Emergency Room clinicians according to professional standards and established guidelines. - Initiate contact with Outpatient Behavioral Health Provider according to established guidelines. - Review and utilize all available documents from the crisis clinical team. - Collaborate with Interdisciplinary staff to ensure each treatment modality is appropriate for the patient. - Work closely with the COE Program Manager to ensure COE unit is operating optimally. - Escalate complicated cases to CRC Medical Director or designee as clinically indicated, based on the Psychiatrist’s clinical judgment. - Work with the community to review involuntary petitions, assess involuntary patients, and coordinate with the legal system to follow established guidelines for Court Ordered Evaluation and Treatment. - Review information available in the EHR, which will include social, medical, and psychiatric history, test results, collateral information obtained by the treating team, and the petition for court-ordered evaluation. - Utilize this information to help render an opinion as to whether the patient requires court-ordered treatment (COT) and include a summary of this information in the affidavit submitted to the court. - The Psychiatrist may be called to testify in court following filing of the affidavit; testimony may take place in person, telephonically, or via audio-visual platform, based on the needs of the court. - Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine. - 4 years of post-doctoral experience, to include approved psychiatric residency training programs, in the delivery of mental health treatment to children, adolescents, and/or adults. - Currently licensed by the State of Arizona. - Board certified in Psychiatry. - Familiar with A.R.S. Title 36 as it pertains to COE/COT processes and procedures. Requirements - The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. • Establish, review, and approve TMS clinical protocols consistent with applicable standards of care, payer requirements, and Colorado and federal law. • Evaluate and confirm patient eligibility for TMS treatment, including treatment-resistant depression criteria where applicable. • Authorize initial TMS treatment plans and provide periodic review of active TMS cases in accordance with clinical standards and payer requirements. • Remain reasonably available during normal business hours for TMS-related consultation and psychiatric oversight questions. • Participate in TMS-specific quality assurance and improvement activities, including chart review, documentation review, risk-based case selection, and corrective action planning when indicated. • Exercise authority to suspend, modify, or discontinue TMS services when clinically or legally necessary to protect patient safety or maintain regulatory compliance. • Ensure TMS ordering and approval processes are consistent with payer credentialing, supervision, and rendering-provider rules, and that claims are not submitted in a manner that misrepresents specialty, supervision, or provider identity. • Review prescribing related to TMS protocols only to the extent required for clinical appropriateness, payer compliance, or regulatory requirements. • Provide consultative input for emergency escalation questions when available, while recognizing that emergency activation and transfer to higher-acuity care must not be delayed pending physician contact. • Participate in periodic quality, compliance, and oversight meetings and maintain appropriate documentation of findings, reviewed cases, and recommended corrective actions. • Promptly notify the Practice of any licensure issue, investigation, discipline, restriction, DEA action, loss of board certification, exclusion, or other adverse event that could affect the ability to perform the role.
