About the team you are joining The core objectives of IATA's Sustainability and Economics (S&E) Division are to contribute to airlines' financial and environmental sustainability, and advance the industry towards the goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In this capacity, we provide our airline members with sustainability and economic analyses, tools, and support that allow them to meet present and future obligations, measure themselves against the industry's overall performance, and that supports their advocacy needs. Our division aims to be the leading research body in terms of air transportation, and we have a central role in helping to shape the thinking of the industry. What your day would be like Reporting to the Assistant Director, Climate Policy, based in Geneva, Switzerland, you will have responsibility for conducting robust policy analysis - both qualitative and quantitative - in support of promoting regulation and policies that advance and accelerate imperatives regarding the airline industry's environmental sustainability goals, including achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. You will contribute to IATA's advocacy efforts with technical inputs that are supported by sound analysis and effective outreach materials. Working with all teams in IATA S&E, you will proactively engage with governments and regulators to influence the development of appropriate policies that impact the industry. You will also participate in building and maintaining relationships with member airlines and other industry stakeholders and promote industry best practices in sustainability management. You will represent the airlines' interests in various forums, events, and technical meetings, notably but not exclusively, those in the Americas. In coordination with airline experts and other stakeholders and aligned with IATA's global strategy and priorities, you will participate in meetings and support the drafting and review of different regulatory initiatives concerning the aviation environment and sustainability. In collaboration with IATA members, you will help to identify solutions and provide technical support regarding the various challenges airlines face when complying with different regulations within and across jurisdictions. As a subject matter expert, you will have opportunities to deliver presentations and develop material for internal and external capacity-building workshops. You will be expected to contribute to developing the strategic direction, identifying priorities, and delivering on the strategy of the team and wider Division, including, but not limited to, the topics concerning the Americas. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director Policy Standards or by the Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Chief Economist. We would love to hear from you if At least 5 years of work experience and a postgraduate university degree in a discipline that will support your contribution to the team, such as Economics, Law, or Public Policy. Significant experience working with national, regional, and international regulatory bodies in charge of aviation, transport, or environmental affairs would be strongly preferred. Direct policy involvement, particularly in environmental sustainability matters, would be viewed favorably. Your key assets would include: - Strong policy analytical skills with the ability to conduct policy assessments, build recommendations, and identify priorities. - Sound understanding of all levers that contribute to airlines' decarbonization and their technical, financial, and emissions-reductions implications. - The ability to anticipate policy developments, build enduring relationships, and proactively engage with stakeholders to shape policy design in support of the airline industry. - The ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and to work under pressure on multiple tasks with tight deadlines and changing priorities. - Excellent written and spoken English with strong communication skills. The ability to decode complex subject material and present it to various stakeholders in a succinct, accessible, and accurate way. Proficiency in Spanish language is required, and command of Portuguese is considered an advantage. - Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate in a multicultural environment across different geographic regions. You have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy collaboration, demonstrating an aptitude for building consensus and balancing diverging views to drive an agenda forward. - This is not a remote position.
