• Act as a subject matter expert for Canadian defined benefit pension plans within ProVal • Maintain and enhance ProVal’s Canadian functionality to reflect current legislation, regulations, CIA Standards of Practice, and pension related financial reporting requirements • Serve as a primary point of contact for Canadian clients on technical pension matters • Test ProVal enhancements and client specific solutions to ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and consistency with actuarial standards • Provide expert guidance to ProVal users on Canadian pension applications • Work closely with programmers and consultants to design and implement client solutions • Prepare and maintain clear, practical user documentation and training materials • Optional: ProVal is coded primarily in APL; no prior programming experience is required, and training is provided
Job Requirements
- 8+ years of experience performing actuarial valuations of defined benefit pension plans under Canadian legislation
- Deep knowledge of Canadian pension funding rules, regulations, CIA Standards of Practice, and pension related financial reporting
- Experience with pension projections and forecasting a plus
- Experience managing projects and professional relationships is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi disciplinary team environment
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or a related discipline
- CIA designation (FCIA) or significant progress toward qualification is a plus

Position Overview A leader within a high performing group that focused on model development, maintenance, and governance for a wide range of US and international products underlying RGA’s Traditional and Non-Traditional reinsurance treaties. Traditional products include Life insurance, Term insurance and Universal Life Insurance. Non-traditional products include Variable and Fixed Annuities, Fixed Index Annuities, SPIAs, and Longevity Swaps. The focus of this role is on the asset modelling and asset-liability interaction components of RGA’s models, ensuring seamless integration with liability product modeling and regulatory requirements for reporting and planning. This role supports the quality, usefulness, and reliability of valuation models as they move through their lifecycle. It also includes some elements of production and analysis of results, including LDTI and Statutory reserves, Tax, Solvency II, ORSA, Cash Flow Testing, Economic Capital, Embedded Value, plan, and management analysis requests. Communication with key executives at RGA along with maintaining excellent relationships with Valuation and Financial teams are components of the role. Responsibilities - Leads modeling projects within the Prophet ALS library, including updates for modeling new asset classes, enhancements to support valuation requirements, regulatory changes, and library upgrades. - Supports broader modeling projects including onboarding of new treaties, model enhancements, regulatory changes, governance and transparency capabilities, and metrics to support financial reporting. - Ensures models are compliant with statutory, Tax, and GAAP regulations for traditional and non-traditional business, including documentation. - Adheres to and drives improvements to the standard model governance and documentation framework. - Develops expertise across all aspects of models and acts as a go-to resource for troubleshooting and answering questions coming from the reporting/analysis teams on model characteristics and behavior. - Provides oversight and direction to junior actuarial/financial associates in the department. May perform supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment.
