At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies. Convergent’s Software and Data Science team owns applications that optimize the performance and control of a rapidly growing 250+ MWh fleet of energy storage and solar assets. We are a small team that blends diligent product management with rapid, fail-fast execution. Our areas of focus cover three main applications – SCADA/controls, performance analytics, and dispatch optimization, as well as a foundational data platform. As the team’s Principal SCADA Engineer, you will be the technical owner of systems that directly control Convergent’s storage and solar assets. You will build the roadmap, define the architecture, and lead execution, all to ensure reliability, security, and scalability as our fleet expands. This work includes extensive collaboration with Software and Operations leadership to ensure strategic alignment. In addition, you are trusted to operate with high accountability and independence, making critical technical decisions that impact system availability, cybersecurity posture, and fleet-wide operational performance. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and provides technical guidance to cross-functional partners and junior team members. What You’ll Do SCADA Platform Ownership (60%) o Serve as the technical lead for our SurvalentONE SCADA platform. o Administer all critical aspects of the SCADA environment, including data platform development, alarm management, and application design and configuration. o Ensure high availability and platform resilience, via mature architecture choices, strong monitoring, and SLAs. o Monitor system performance and proactively address stability, latency, alarm flooding, and data integrity issues. o Lead platform patching, upgrades, licensing management, and version control. o Ensure lean but structured change management to provide fast feature delivery with minimal operational disruption. o Lead root cause investigations for system-level failures or platform degradation. o Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to optimize data pipelines and infrastructure. SCADA Roadmap, Governance and Continuous Improvement (20%) o Develop SCADA lifecycle processes and maintain ISA-112 alignment. o Develop and maintain enterprise SCADA standards spanning system philosophy, alarm management, naming conventions, network architecture, and automation. o Produce annual SCADA performance and roadmap reports. o Design and implement scalability improvements as fleet expands. o Document and maintain complete SCADA topology and system architecture. Network Operations and Advanced Troubleshooting (10%) o Troubleshoot complex SCADA-related incidents impacting the Control Center, including communications failures (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850), data corruption, nuisance alarms, application anomalies, and disaster recovery. o Support integration and mapping of RTACs and other automation controllers into Survalent. o Analyze power system event data and assist in disturbance analysis when required. Project Onboarding and Reference Design Support (10%) o Provide SCADA reference design standards and templates for Construction Engineering. o Define required points lists and data mapping standards for new projects. o Support factory testing and integration validation prior to project COD. o In collaboration with Software and Control Center teams, ensure seamless integration of new facilities onto the Survalent platform. o Define and verify proper data ingestion, alarm alignment, and HMI integration prior to operational handoff.
