Your day at NTT DATA The Manager, Development Engineering is a management role, responsible for managing operational tasks of their assigned team related to the research and development of new digital products/services and/or technologies and improving on existing digital products/services and/or technologies. This role ensures the compliance to policies, processes, and procedures for their assigned team by managing and continuously improving the productivity, quality and overall performance and output of their team. This is a people management role, responsible for the day-to-day operations of their team(s) whilst fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on achieving operational excellence. Key responsibilities: - Participates in hands-on software development activities as needed, contributing to the development of critical features and modules. - Organizes, delegates, and oversees all development engineering tasks and deliverables. - Allocates resources effectively to support development projects and optimize team productivity. - Implements and oversees quality assurance processes, including code reviews, testing, and debugging. - Ensures the implementation of Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, to enhance development efficiency and flexibility. - Keeps abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation. - Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of IT solutions. - Identifies and manages potential risks and challenges in development projects and proactively implements risk mitigation strategies. - Champions a culture of continuous improvement within the development team, encouraging feedback, and implements process enhancements. - Verifies software development solutions/results with potential consumers and collaboratively decide on the best option/approach. - Communicates and collaborates with relevant stakeholders, including relevant vendors as required. - Participates in relevant technical decision making and solution development. - Manages the maintenance and creation of all technical documentation as well as project roadmaps. - Recommends project and programme budgets related to any development engineering activities. - Provides technical expertise for products in development, new or improvement of existing. - Reviews the research that others have done and what outcomes they have achieved to inform decision making process to decide direction to take. - Understands markets, trends, and market analysis to appropriately decide what research needs to be developed. - Manages innovation and development through strong technical market awareness. - Inspires team members to perform at their best by recognizing their contributions, providing support, and fostering a positive work environment. - Supports the growth and development of team members through coaching, mentoring, and provide opportunities for learning and skill enhancement. Academic qualifications and certifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Technical Management or Business Administration or related field. - Relevant project management/agile certifications (for example, PMP, CSM, PSPO, POPM) are advantageous. Required experience: - Advanced demonstrated experience building, managing and leading high performance software development, engineering and/or architecture teams. - Advanced demonstrated experience of delivering large software projects, utilizing Agile methodology. - Advanced demonstrated experience in new product introduction, reworking design changes and upgrades through to production. - Advanced experience of IT in a complex business environment with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms. - Advanced demonstrated experience in coaching and training facilitation. - Proven working experience in a large-scale organization. - Advanced demonstrated experience of negotiation or management of vendors and third-party service providers. - Proven track record in accomplishing individual and team goals. - Advanced demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
